One of my good friends, Phillip, sitting by a pool in Brazil back in March of 2003. I took this shot without him noticing or posing. I find that those candid shots portray the person more realistically rather than with simulated emotions or looks.The faroff, distant look in his eyes are what makes this photo unique. you wonder what he is thinking. I know he loves exploring the hills, looking for exotic orchids to add to his collection. Maybe orchids were on his mind.
I decided to leave the blue in the water to give context to this photo and also because he is wet. And i didnt want a solely black & white shot.

i couldnt agree more. he is such an eye-candy.. and i think he'll only look that good if he wasnt posing for the camera. awesome shot.

You're right, candid shots are always the best and in this case nice job sneeking up on him. That's always fun and then most people want to steal your camera and kill the picture. LOL Nice!

Usually it's an eye or a face or something red that gets to keep it's colour while everything gets turned to B& W, but this is really visually pleasing.
The soft blue of the pool, the model's gaze and the texture of the background all work brilliantly together to make an awesome photograph.

Awesome portrait. Great detail and expression in his face. The b&w looks fantastic. However, I really disagree with you about leaving the pool blue. I find it distracting from the portrait, not adding to it. You want his face to be the focal point, and instead your eyes are drawn to the blue, out-of-focus pool at the bottom of the image.

This is a really great shot! It makes you wonder what he's thinking about. And I agree that candid photos are the best. Also, I like the black and white. It wouldn't be quite the same in color.

First off, I totally agree with you on the whole candid shot thing. It really does capture a person. Second, it is an excellent close up of your friend and it really does make me wonder what he's thinking about. It's the whole nother world look in his eyes. Third, he's really cute.
