This is #93- "Give Up" for my 100-Theme Challenge: [link]Listening to some VOCALOID music, I came across this interesting song called "Last Battle" by Kagamine Rin and Hatsune Miku. And when I heard the lyrics in translation, my usual inspiration mode flashed on and I thought about Marth and some of the troubles he has to deal with.
I guess the lyrics can relate to him (if not everyone else), just not too exaggerated. But then, you guys probably know me for exaggerating things anyway~
This took so many hours and days to plan out, but it turned out great... Except for the pichur at the top-right corner. That twisted look that Marth has wasn't like that before.
I had to fix the mouth by Photoshopping another mouthpiece so Marth wouldn't look like some kinda rapist.
(Believe me, it looked that bad.)

I thought the lyrics really fit with my headcanon of him - until the second verse and the thing about being alone came up and the singer started doubting his life's value. Then it verged more into Elsa territory. Still, that song is DEPRESSING. And a lot of the lyrics of the first verse applied to him - mainly the part about all the others watching, which is kind of a big part of what drives his issues in my interpretation of him, being royalty and all (which is kind of worsened by the presence of Lucina, who puts him on a pedestal) along with his phobia of his comrades dying and the whole betrayal of Gra. And the only reason he isn't suicidal is because he has responsibilities back home, not to mention a wife. But yeah. DEPRESSING!

Well, he may not be so troubled to the brink of thinking about ending if life-- but, in some cases, at least referring to a segment in the OVA (provided that its non-canon, and I know you don't like those, regardless) Marth questions if he could ever be like his father. This could kind of be like wondering over his life, but mayhaps in a different context than what we're discussing.
But it's just a thought, so I'll just disregard what I said there.
I thought the song still represents Marth well, if not putting things in a somewhat symbolical or even exaggerated sense in some lines. This song also can pretty much apply to any one who follows the Hero's Journey concept, despite their level of "uber depression".
A struggle is a struggle, and much forms can be seen as such where someone can seem down at times.

I'm glad that effect worked well through the expressions, I kind of rushed it at some places though so it may have been from a few places.
Well, for the picture, all I did was use a blue ballpoint pen and a ruler for the lines. And a teensy bit of Photoshop to fix a face that I didn't like.

really nice, the song is rather sad, i saw something recently though that you are supposed to match up the lyrics from Last Battle with Last Stage it really is intersting

Hey Mew, does this have something to do with his games? I know that many things happen in 'em which can be serious, but still- I remember something like Marth getting betrayed by his bestest friend at one point.
Though, I gotta say, this is a powerful pic. If it captures that what I'm now expecting to be capturing, then truly that's great job done here.

Not exactly, just a few pichurs relate to his game exactly. The background pictures have their inspiration more from the song's lyrics with a touch from Marth's experiences (more personal than gamewise).
In fact, when I thought about it, Marth's friend could've also been in Marth's position with this song. It's another long story but it seems fitting.

Your Welcome-(-lwl-) I found it somewhat incharacter for Marth too, even if I haven't much seen much his experiences. But still, maybe it had to be like that after all.
Now though I checked the lyrics... it seems to fit Ness very well too. And maybe more for Lucas. Ness had gone through most wierdest, difficult stuff unimaginable.(The final boss of the Earthbound and Magicant are already things that will give your mind a hell of a rollercoaster) while Lucas's been through lots of depressing moments. (His Mom died, etc) (-i-i-)
So maybe.

It is about some kinda last stage in some adventure (literally or symbolically), so it can go with many other protagonists of similar backstory.
