After her mother's fall, Contessa and her guardian, the former General Sanshou, were ultimately allowed to remain in the main timeline so long as they stayed out of trouble. To that end, they relocated to a distant, rural planet. Wanting nothing more than peace, they found a living in helping to "farm" a local energy source -- energy crystals that could be planted, grown after their roots tapped the energy from the planet's core, and then extracted for processing and sale.

This coupled with a small number of livestock animals that limited their ventures to the more occupied sister planets, Contessa would end up living rather isolated existence. While that was just fine as a child, as a teenager it became more than a little stifling... leading 'tessa to begin sneaking out on her own for some "fun".
