Description
Those who are unfamiliar with my particular "Legend of Korra Fanon" probably won't get this joke.
BUT, I trust that those who are fans of my "Takorra" pairing will find this hilarious.
I will admit, when I went about the creation of my OC
I wasn't THAT creative when it came to naming him.
I wanted him to have an authentic Water Tribe name (which often involves two of the same letters, and "uh" sounds)
but, opted to take an existing name from a different franchise, and rework it a bit.
"Takka" was modified from "Taka", the true name of the character "Scar" from Disney's The Lion King
(I chose it as it was the best Water Tribe sounding name that I could think of at the time.)
Well, I went ahead and researched the name out of sheer curiosity.
and, let me tell ya; I was SHOCKED at what I found.
I half expected "Taka" to be an african name, given my source material
(so, I was surprised to find it was REALLY a Japanese name.)
but, what REALLY caught me off guard was that "Taka" is more commonly a GIRL'S Name.
Okay, I am guessing this is quite surprising for Lion King and Scar fans (I am looking at YOU, )
but, I had no idea that I gave my MALE character a japanese girl name
It's almost the same as naming a boy "Alice", "Lucy", or "Sally!"
then again, "Taka" is also listed as a boy's name as well as a girl's.
SO, it may also count as being a similar name to "Sam", "Terry/Terri" and "Danny/Dani"
but, still..a GIRL'S Name. Takka and Scar's father's must have been VERY vindictive to name them THAT.
(and, the up side, NOW I won't have to worry about changing Takka's name
If and When I decide to do a "Rule 63" type of thing with Korra and Takka.)

I guess that's why she and Asami got together.

Isn't Korra bisexual? You'd think she wouldn't care that she's dating a boy with a girl's name when she's interested in girls in general.

I've gone on to better writers. Also you didn't answer my question of why Korra would find that odd?

It's a JOKE. It's suppose to be funny.
when one explains, orr dissects a joke, then It ISN'T a joke anymore.
Just roll with It, have a laugh, and don't get so critical.
(but, if you MUST know, Korra doesn't know that she's bisexual at this point (the image was taken from Season ONE, for god's sakes)
So, yes. at THIS point in time, she WOULD for Takka's name being of feminine origin being "odd")

How do you know she didn't know she was Bi at that point? For all we know she knew she was bi before any of us did.

Because the series creators STATED that she didn't know at first.
OKAY, this is EXACTLY why I stopped talking to you so long ago: You like to make pointless, critical arguments.
Look, unless you have something Nice, or supportive to say..PLEASE, just leave me alone.
because you starting to ANNOY me.

I also recently found that when Michael and Bryan were in the panning stages of Legend of Korra.
they were stumped, as they couldn't decide upon a name for the titular character.
THEN, they learned of a friend who had a dog named "Cora." and, so they named the newest avatar "Korra."
You get it? Korra was named after someone's DOG.
I mean, that's like naming your kid "Sparky", or "Rover", or something like that.

Yeah but "Cora" is a normal human name given to a pet. Is not like they gave her a name normally given to a pet. From what I know, they wanted a Water Tribe sounding name and "Cora" fitted well, they just changed the spelling.

Taka is also an african name. I think it stands for garbage.
In this kind of situation, the meaning of some names don't really matter. In Russia the name Sasha can go for boys and girls, it doesn't matter really. Aren't there girls out there named Max, and no one points it out?

MetroXLR In reply to Dark-Carioca [2015-03-17 02:00:06 +0000 UTC]
True. I remember in 'Batman Beyond' there was a character named "Max Gibson"
her full name is "Maxine", and she is yet another character voiced by the great Cree Summer.
"Robin" is also a girls' name used as an alias my more than one male character in Batman.
"Taka" appears to be a double-edged sword as a name. In Africa it's insulting..but, in Japan it's honorable.
Funny how that works out.

MetroXLR In reply to FoxMan0224 [2015-03-17 01:28:12 +0000 UTC]
An internet term in which any present character usually have their gender reversed in fanon.
either by some In-Universe situation (be it Intentional, OR Accidental) or, as an example of a Parallel Universe.
Here is an example if what I mean:
Rule 63 is NOT to be confused with "Rule 34", though.
which is something COMPLETELY different that you DO NOT wish to know about.

hmmm... must be the explanation why Scar is so sassy
But seriously I think that in Scar's case Taka was just a shortening for
A) Wanataka Swahili for want
B) Takataka Swahili for garbage
