These 'Priests' are not priests if they use their power in such a way. They are supposed to be teachers, and it disgusts me how some would use this to take advantage of others.

It's not that people hate Christianity because of peodophiole priests. It's thatΒ people have becomeΒ more critical of the ChurchΒ for continuiously covering up stories about paedophile priests because they didn't want the bad press.Β
Bishops haveΒ let thousands ofΒ kids live with PTSD after sexual abuse and gave NO repercussions to the paedophiles in the church, all because they wanted to save their own asses.

you are right, but I believe and pray the pope is making amends for that and he has asked forgiveness of these people that were hurt. Even though the things those priests did were really low, no child should be hurt by any pedophiles.Β

I love my Priest at my church! (quite literally Β ) I just want to snuggle him *shot*
(I'm way above the age of consent though, so it's not weird XD)
I hate it when people say, how could you be friends with a pedophile, or they drag their children away from him.
Some people have a hissy fit IN PUBLIC cussing at him and even pushing him, one guy even hit him, because they think he's some evil asshole. They haven't even met him! ( Is there some law saying Priests are only allowed to sleep and eat in a church and only be seen on Sundays?)
People sometimes forget that these aren't just people in fancy robes, but humans with feelings as well, many of whom that I've met are very kind and caring of all peoples.
This applies to any person within any religion.

Exactly! The priest at my old school lost his wife in a car accident and devoted himself to the Lord. Well, one day I saw him outside of school, only to see these jerkholes yelling and screaming at him to burn and kill himself just because he was wearing the Catholic collar.

My grandma was friends with a black family in Weston, West Virginia. They lived in nothing more than a chicken shack. The father was accused of stealing from a store, and people tarred and feathered him, and hung him from a bridge. My great grandmother was the only one who was kind to them, and made them a lot of food. When she was walking up the road, people began mocking her and calling her a "nigger lover". They were some of the only Catholics in the town, but she simply stated "Don't ever that word in front of me again. You call yourselves Christians." Best thing to do, is to call out the LGBT hypocrisy. My brother is gay, but he's still a devout Catholic, and his partner is still very nice.

Thiendrah [2013-12-16 23:18:02 +0000 UTC]
Because the church condones pedophilia. They knew that some of their priests were molesting children and rather than excommunicate them and hand them over to the authorities, they just relocated the priest to a new place where no one knows what they really are. The only reason they are condemning pedophilia now, is because they've been found out and are suffering the negative backlash, not because pedophilia is a horrible crime which must be wiped out.Β

Does the American government condone genocide? Look at the fate of the Native American.
Does the U.N. sanction dictatorships? They were nowhere to be found when Pinochet ruled Chile with an iron fist, yet now they gripe about Human rights to those who overthrew him.
You speak against the Catholic Church, why not the U.N.? Why not America? Why not Israel?

PeteSeeger In reply to Thiendrah [2014-01-11 23:29:10 +0000 UTC]
It's unfair to condemn the entire Church because a few officials are corrupt and evil.
π: 0 β©: 1
Thiendrah In reply to PeteSeeger [2014-01-12 00:02:37 +0000 UTC]
Fair enough. Then why haven't the good officials excommunicated the pedophiles? Why have they not gotten rid of the evil officials? I'll tell you, because they condone the pedophilia, they must, otherwise they wouldn't have worked so hard to move the pedophiles to new parishes and hide what they were from the parishioners. There is no justification for this. Until they excommunicate and denounce every single pedophile and corrupt official, I will condemn the church. Once they show that they actually are trying to get rid of these things, then I'll stop.Β

PeteSeeger In reply to Thiendrah [2014-01-12 00:11:37 +0000 UTC]
1) Only one person can excommunicate people: the Pope. And Papal Law dictates specifically what you can be excommunicated for. The pedophiles are defrocked, kicked out of the priesthood.
2) The Pope has denounced and defrocked every member of the priesthood who has been found guilty of these crimes.
π: 0 β©: 1
Thiendrah In reply to PeteSeeger [2014-01-12 00:24:58 +0000 UTC]
Wrong. I looked it up. The pedophiles are defrocked, yes, but the officials have not. They've not been defrocked or fired. Explain to me how raping children is not an excommunicable offense. They broke their vows of chastity, harmed the most innocent and most loved of Jesus, and then the officials moved them so they could continue doing so. Given that people have been excommunicated for not believing the pope is infallible, a stupid reason in my opinion, why have they not excommunicated the pedophiles, the real criminals?
π: 0 β©: 1
PeteSeeger In reply to Thiendrah [2014-01-12 00:50:42 +0000 UTC]
Which officials? The ones who heard the confessions of the criminals? The ones who moved them around? The government officials who turned a blind eye?
People can only be excommunicated if they do something that violate Church laws of religion.
π: 0 β©: 1
Thiendrah In reply to PeteSeeger [2014-01-12 00:56:23 +0000 UTC]
So saying the pope is not infallible violates the church laws of religion, but raping children doesn't. That makes so much sense. I should convert immediately. And people wonder why I don't take Catholics seriously.Β
π: 0 β©: 1
PeteSeeger In reply to Thiendrah [2014-01-12 01:03:49 +0000 UTC]
Neither of the things you said are grounds for excommunication. How many time is a pedophile put to death? How many times is a pedophile sentenced to life in prison? You talk of excommunication as though it is something that truly matters to these men. They were evil-hearted rapists before they were priests. Not vice versa.
π: 0 β©: 1
Thiendrah In reply to PeteSeeger [2014-01-12 01:17:43 +0000 UTC]
People have been excommunicated for saying the pope is not infallible, look it up, the church apparently thinks that's grounds for excommunication even though people aren't put to death or spend a life in prison for it. And of course it doesn't matter to those things, they were always monsters and they never should have been priests, they never should be allowed in a church and certainly not allowed into heaven. They should be excommunicated if for no other reason than to send a clear message that the church does not tolerate pedophiles. As it stands, it seems they don't really care that there are children being molested by men who are part of their clergy. Excommunicate the damn things and curse them to burn in hell.
π: 0 β©: 1
PeteSeeger In reply to Thiendrah [2014-01-12 01:47:38 +0000 UTC]
You've said point blank you aren't Catholic, so why would you believe excommunication itself curses your soul to Hell? You can't exactly tell by looking at someone that they are a pedophile.
π: 0 β©: 1
Thiendrah In reply to PeteSeeger [2014-01-12 02:06:33 +0000 UTC]
Wishful thinking, frankly. I put pedophiles and rapists on the same level as rabid dogs, they need to be put down immediately if not sooner. Very few people share my view so the best I can hope for is eternal torment. Is that not what excommunication does? From what understand, which I admit is little, Catholics don't want to be excommunicated and I always thought that was because it condemned them to hell. That's not what it does, is it?
π: 0 β©: 1
PeteSeeger In reply to Thiendrah [2014-01-12 02:54:04 +0000 UTC]
1) Not all pedophiles are child molesters.
2) Only God decides who goes to Hell. Excommunication just mean when you pass on, there'll be a few more people giving reasons why you shouldn't get into Heaven.

Thiendrah In reply to PeteSeeger [2014-01-12 03:07:33 +0000 UTC]

PeteSeeger In reply to Thiendrah [2014-01-12 03:38:17 +0000 UTC]

Thiendrah In reply to PeteSeeger [2014-01-12 03:48:26 +0000 UTC]
Good for them. But it's absolutely disgusting. Children are supposed to be protected and educated, not made the subject of sick fantasists. And I have never heard of a pedophile who didn't act on those desires. They cannot keep it in their head, they act on it in one way or another. They molest children or they look at child pornography or something. It is a mental disorder, genuinely, and they will act on it, there is no question about it.Β
