Last time this speshul hour took place, Youtube put their BG in black instead of white and had banners everywhere saying "don't be herrreee turn lights off, derrrp".
I went up to go to the bathroom, and when I got back, blue screen of death.
I did and still do believe they scripted the site to do that on purpose.

I would've bought into Global Warming if it weren't for 1)Carbon dioxide is actually good for the environment...plants breathe it in and couldn't exist without us, who breathe oxygen that they exhale, 2)When temperatures actually started to go DOWN after GW-believers really picked up steam, we suddenly had Global Cooling - which is somehow caused by the exact same things as Global Warming, 3)They falsified information - such as measuring the amount of greenhouse gases right over a VOLCANO! - but media downplayed it and said it was for our own good. You know, imagine a doctor telling his patient he's in danger of terminal illness, when he was merely exaggerating...yeah, that would go over well...the list goes on. I'm all for caring for the environment, but Mother Nature's got a tougher skin than many give her credit for.

What's one hour compared to a whole year; the whole idea is a tad silly - a publicity stunt to feel better and look green. NBC/Universal/SyFy dimming it's studio lights for an NFL game while their affiliate broadcast stations pump out megawatts of radio energy throughout North America. So the Bay Bridge/Golden Gate are darkened; big deal.
Forty miles south from me, in Coahuila Mexico, a HUGE coal plant belches out power every hour of every day; CFE doesn't give a dam and neither do any of it's customers.

And for that matter, the amount of electricity saved/not being consumed may be well into the ten thousands or even millions, but they then go off on a tirade about the trillions (or billions, at the very least) that we waste all the time. It's silly, really.

I'm always asleep for that hour, so I don't end up being the one to make that decision...mom and dad and sister completely ignore the concept, however. I think...XD
Personally, I have looked into the issue quite a bit, and, unless someone somehow has the ability to manipulate just about every public source of information out there, global warming does exist, though humans are only have a minor effect on it. Over time, the Earth's overall average temperature has risen and fallen, leading to an overall average increase. In the past few centuries, the rate of increase has increased quite a bit, and there is that issue of the hole in the Ozone layer...
Now, obviously, I haven't directly seen the results of all of these studies, and the such. I'm going by indirect evidence from various websites and books I have seen over the years. In the long term, I don't recall ever seeing any evidence, reliable or not, that global warming is a hoax.
Either way, regardless of whether or not global warming is real, turning the lights off would save some electricity. A small amount, but still some.

I think everyone has this mentality of if they use conservation methods they're 100% going stop global warming. When here's the thing, the Earth is going to change whether anyone likes it or not, species are dying off (the ones who can't adapt to the Earth's changing climate) because of it. This cycle has repeated itself since the first living organisms graced the planet. Over millions of years such has happened and we're stop trying to hold back what has naturally millions of year before we walked the earth and is still going on today. Every other commercial I see they're spouting "Let's stop climate change!""Let's stop global warming!" when we can't, no one can. We can only slow the process down. People just can't accept that nature is taking its course while natural selection is ruling out certain species who can't adapt to the changing climates. Yes the polar bears might die off, but that's the price that has to be paid for life to go on. So yeah, this whole "stop global warming and climate change" fad is a crock of shit. The planet's going to do what they planet is going to do, the only thing you can do about it prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Wow... No wonder air qualty is becoming worse and worse. I'm sorry, but this is the most ridiclous idea I've ever seen, based completely on ignorance. The actual cause of climate change (not necessarily "warming" but certainly change) is competely scientifically sound. I really, really hope you know that plants are made mainly of carbon and that fossil fuels are compressed plants, thus coal and oil are very dense in carbon. Carbon, in the form of a gas, rises and is very, very good at trapping heat. If the environment was completely balanced, CO2 (carbon combined with oxygen in the atmosphere) would be absorbed by plants, which would realease oxygen, and there would be just enough CO2 to keep the earth warm and the seasons balanced. When coal, oil and other fossil fuels are burned, far more carbon is realeased than ould naturally. This also results in poor air quality, due to the mercury and other pollutants trapped with the fuels. If you're willing to risk the one place in the universe known to have life simply to be stubborn in your ways, then I don't know what to tell you except that you either have no morals or no sense.
There's your physics lesson for the day. I'm sorry if I got a bit harsh, but this is something that I've dedicated a lot of study to, and to see it being blown off as myth is terriby frustrating.

No offense, but those are not related to global warming in any way! You are begging the question here. Misconduct in other areas does not equal misconduct in this area. And in actually reading academic papers, you would be able to determine the flaws of the paper such as small sample size, poor methodology, lack of double-blind testing, or just outright failure to correctly report the study's results. Studies done on global warming are well-conducted, and there is a HUGE number of studies supporting it. Extrodinary claims demand extrodinary evidence, and to objectively deny such a well-supported area of research would require a lot of well-conducted, very large studies against it, which incidentally don't exist.
