Description
This is a commission from a friend, for a really cool version of my Frost Dragon mask. She wanted it with teal, blue and silver, so this is "Teal Frost Dragon #1"Like all my masks, this one is hand carved from 8oz veg-tanned tooling leather. Hot-formed by hand with no molds or casts, and then painted with Liquitex acrylics.

This is so neat! I can honestly say I've never come across anything quite like this. To think that this is made entirely by hand from leather - wow! I also really love the colors. I bet it looks even more amazing in person.

I love this one... some of my favorite colors, and i've always liked your dragons.
I am assuming that the glued-on parts are done -after- baking and such, correct? are they painted separately, and then assembled, or painted all at the same time?

Hmm...I do the carving first, then wt-form and bake all the peices separately but at the same time (so I can make them fit), then a coat of blue base dye. THEN glue, and lastly paint.

this is wonderful! i love the detail! i watched ur tutorial on youtube however you didnt do any carving in that one. at what stage in the mask making process do you do the carving? and what do you use?

Teal= a rich blue-green. For a while, it was the color of choice for everyone's SUVs it seems.

another amazingly detailed and realistic mask! I absolutely love how you manage to show the facial form of a dragon yet it fits so smoothly onto the human face allowing for minimally impaired vision!
The only thing that I think could be changed (not necissarily improved) is increasing the size of the ear. Even though dragons are based off of lizards/dinosaurs and would have indentation based ears, its my personal preference to depict them with larger ears to match their horns...
Regarless this is an astounding piece and my favorite of your creations I've seen

I based the ears on Asian Dragon ears, which are smallish and a bit furry. I've done larger ears but I guess I didn't want to overbalance the design. Long ears + long mane + long horns seemed a bit like overkill.
