Description Koloman kneeled next to his wife's bed. Helmine had been ill for months now, but at the latest days she had shown signs for a deeper weakness. Helmine had always been a strong woman. She never complained about any wounds she had ever had or if she felt pain. Sometimes it had irritated him, for he never knew when she was hurt. Helmine didn't say it aloud, if it wasn't something to be worried about. And when she had become ill, first she had refused to stay in bed, but he had managed to persuade her. Helmine had been a hard patient.
Until these days. Helmine had maybe never showed her weakness, but now she had. She just couldn't stay that strong what she normally had been and she had even said to him, that she felt pain.

Koloman had never been as scared as he had been these couple of days. He knew, that it was something serious.
They both did.

Helmine had called him to her. He had come immediately, for nothing was as important as she. Nothing had ever been, but now Koloman had been maybe a little hysterical when she had called him. He had even run into the room many times. She had laughed.
"Is everything alright?" No. Why would you even ask that? Nothing had been alright since she had fallen ill. Still he had asked it every day. He had asked it about fifteen minutes ago as he had come to this room and now asked it again, for Helmine had remained silent for several minutes.
She coughed. Couple of times, before she could talk.
"K-Koloman... I want you to take me outside."
"Outside? But dear... Your illness, you should--"
"Koloman. I'm dying already", Helmine said with a weak laughter. But she spoke the truth. The truth what she hadn't dared to say earlier, and the truth what he had been afraid to face for all this time. Cold, sharp truth which made him stare at her. "Please. I want to feel the snow."
Koloman would have wanted to refuse. He had swored to her that she would make it, that she would walk again and they would continue their lives. That they together would end this stupid shit, this... war, hatred between two families, which they had had on their shoulders for years. They would end it, and they would live their lives in peace after that. That she would see her grandchildren having children, that they would die together, holding hands at dawn.

Helmine had laughed, but it had been a loving laugh. She had wanted to believe it, but she had maybe known that any of that won't happen. Or at least she won't be there to see. She had nodded, made him believe that she tried.
Had she tried?

"Fine. Come here", he said and rose from the floor. He bowed and took her into his arms. She silently moaned for pain.
As soon as they were outside, he saw her brightening a bit. Helmine had always liked winter, as much as Koloman had hated it. Though he had never minded when she had thrown a snowball at him or something like that. Seeing and hearing her laughing was always comforting. And she had seemed to enjoy him chasing her after he had got the snowball straight in his face...
Koloman stopped near their house and kneeled. At first he didn't let her touch the ground, but Helmine had wanted to feel the cold, so he lowered her, but kept her in a sitting position against his leg. Helmine smiled at him and touched the snow with her fingers.
"Thank you", she said silently, but with all the voice she had. Koloman smiled back and touched her cheek smoothly.
"We won't be here long", he soon answered. If it was up to him, he wouldn't even had brought her here, but kept her in her bed. Helmine sneered lovingly. Her movements were slow and her gaze was not as clear as it had normally been. Koloman sighed soundlessly and raised his gaze to face the sun. It was a beautiful sight. "Look at that, Helmine. Do you feel the warmth on your cheeks?"
"I do."
She raised her hand to touch his cheek. Her skin felt cold, but Koloman pressed his face against her hand anyway. For a moment he closed his eyes and let Helmine pet him, before he took her hand and closed it into his own.
"I surely do..."

They remained silent for a moment, staring at the sun. But soon he noticed it. He heard nothing. Helmine didn't say anything to him, she didn't make a sound. She didn't breathe. Her heart didn't pound. Her fingers didn't move in his palm. All of these things, these marks of death, he noticed, but Koloman didn't lower his gaze. Tears started to run across his cheeks. He didn't dare to look down at her. He didn't do anything but sqeezed her hand harder.
He didn't even try to fight. He closed his eyes and lowered his head, and started to cry.

----

So yeah. I like these characters very much and I wanted to draw them together. Koloman had never loved anyone but Helmine and well, he didn't took her death very lightly... Actually after that he made very bad decisions and caused death of many members of their family and he showed marks of madness too. And soon after that he walked before the enemy family, and ripped his chest open with a knife, and he bled to death. He had always been a smart and good leader for the family, so it was kind of a shock for everyone.
Their end is a bit tragic.
