Description Sweetpotato weevil is the most serious pest of sweet potato, not only in the United States, but around the world. It causes damage in the field, in storage, and is of quarantine significance. It is inherently of interest to entomologists due to its strikingly colorful appearance and extremely long rostrum (beak).

Very nice! I used to catch rose weevils when I was a kid. They had glossy black rostrums and legs and the rest of the body were a striking red, sometimes mixed with bronze. They were pests unfortunately, and I'm guessing they were dealt with, because I haven't seen them around in a very long time.

This weevil is very beautiful. Over here, there are no farm and plantation so these don't consider as pest here. But like you, i also have not seen them for a long time!

Nice capture.
I photographed an beetle that has loads of similarities to this one. [link] It's funny because the first thing that came to my mind was the Theory of Evolution because I bet they were the same one day o_O

Thanks! They all belong to the same Curculionoidea superfamily. With over 60,000 species described worldwide, it is the largest of any animal family.

Do you ever do anything with the insects after you photograph them?

I like how the focus is only on the bug and the stem the bug is standing on.
No distracting backgrounds here!
