Description Now that it's scanned, I don't think the hands are quite finished. Anyway, this is what I've been working on to relax between comics and commissions. Skawa and Suren, from my potential comic Changewind.

Suren is not impressed. Possibly he should be.

I am always *absolutely* impressed by your watercolor, and this is just gorgeous! The clean barriers between the colors just amaze me, do you use a masking fluid to deliniate areas you are painting? I'm embarrassed to admit I generally get impatient and rush watercolor (takes so long to dry) and skip that part. >_<;
Not to mention the great expressions on the dragon and guy. ^____^

No masking fluid - I really need to learn to use it, though. There are some things I just won't be able to do until I learn.
I tend to use small amounts of pigment and water after the first bold washes, and build up intense areas with lots of layers. Try using a dryer brush or a more absorbant paper, those will make the paint dry faster.

Thanks so much for the tips, I appreciate it! I will definitely try both pointers, I've been doing a lot of playing around with watercolor lately (in my oh-so-copious spare time). ^_^

I've never seen a dragon like that before. Very creative. Colors are fabulous, too. I like the guy's expression, too (not sure which is which )

yes, i agree. the eyes and the smiles on both of them - the expression is suggestively similar on both of their faces, and conveys quite a bit about their relationship, it seems to me. and i loooove skawa's scales, and the stretch of the skin over the joint in the wing. beautful work; a pleasure to look at.

I think my absolutle favorite part of this (besides the sheer amount of WOW in terms of your watercolor skillz) is Skawa's ears. They - and his eyes - really make his expression so tangibly pissed !

the dragon looks friendly... and his master don't... very nice piece it is.... very powerful skill you got.

Hee! I like that dragon's wry grin. Almost like he did something he enjoyed that he knew he shouldn't do.
