What's up with the mane and tail? It doesn't match the flow of the hair at all. Also, there appears to be shading on the jacket but not the rest of the body. Other than that, good work.

I guess the mane thing looks like that because I use 6 different colors to do the lines and shade. I guess brown shows the hair strands better. I have to keep that in mind.
For the body well It actually has shading. The problem that I had was that the shading and lines kinda merged together. Making it look like there are no lines and only shading so I tryed to keep the shading part a bit lighter. I guess I messed up on that too. Oh well. Now I know.
Anyways.
Thanks for pointing out the mistakes. I`ll try to avoid making such mistakes in the future. So yeah, thank chu.

I mean the strands in general. Many artists use that specific brush as a cheap way to make the hair look more realistic. It should match the overall flow of the hair.

I personally don`t use any fancy brush types to make the hair strands but you are right. Some artists do use that one brush type to make the hair strands. Which I`m not a fan of. It makes it seem less realistic since all the strands are in a specific pattern. Then again. Doing them one by one takes a lot of time.
Tbh I don`t know which is better. Using a fancy brush to make the hair strands or making them one by one.
The choices you have to make as an artist :/

Adding thicker brushstrokes ( Usually with the watercolor brush ) adds more depth to the hair, while using thinner ones, not strandy, but thinner, makes a huge difference.

Really? I have to try that sometime.
I usually use the pen tool to make thinner lines first(in 4 different colors) and then thicker lines(in 2 different colors). It does take a longer time to make but from my own experience it tends to look better than just the normal "1 layer of dark hair strands and 1 layer of light hair strands". It gives the hair/mane(?) that special look. Kinda like the hair strands are layered on top of each other rather than just being next to each other.

Layering is the most important part of hair. Adding clumps of thicker lines makes a big difference. If a character has thick hair, e.g Fluttershy, adding clumps ( especially with the line-art ) makes it look more like it's growing out of the head.

The mane and tail was designed to look messy since I'm a very carefree person. The jacket has shading it's just lighter than the rest of the shading ^^

I think if you look at the full image of the cutie mark then it wouldn't be so hard to understand because right now the cutie mark is partly covered with the jacket and it's size has been reduced a lot. Then again the rainbow notes might be a bit too bright for some people. Meh. Idk. people have different tastes and opinions, who am I to say what's good and what's bad XP
