Description Pencil version of my entry for 's contest.

Took over two months of my life.

she's a mermaid becoming a phoenix and flying for her freedom.

the sea reminds me of enclosure, it means prision, in this drawing. flying reminds me of freedom. she's leaving her prision and becoming free.

the phoenix means transcendence. to begin anew.

so this is a mermaid becoming a phoenix.

well, that's why I decided to add chains being destroyed, that's what had been keeping her, but not anymore.

I don't have a lot of time now, I'll write a better description soon.

Detail must've been a bitch, love the soft curves on the mermaid.

I love the concept.

She reminds me of Ariel from The Little Mermaid, a little bit.

So many deatils! I like her hair and fish-tail. I think it was worth working so long on this pic. I like also coloured version, but this one is better, I think.

There's really not much I can say about this - everything about is gorgeous: starting from the idea, which I find intriguing and ending with the lovely shading and details. Breathtaking.

thanks!
Yeah, I like details, but they are so time consuming. And it was my first time drawing water like this, with pencils. I think it doesn't show
And I'm glad you could FIND her tail. It's been bugging my frieds.

No problem . I know what you mean about it being time consuming, but they make your work so much more special and interesting to look at.

no doubts there! If it wasn't worth it, for the sake of fun at least, I don't think I'd do it
anyway, I don't draw for money, I'm free to do as I will.
