I disagree with some aspects of the previous critique, but agree with others. Let's start with the positive. This beautifully captures the way window light illuminates the soft curves of a female figure. The lighting is dramatic and catches the viewer's attention. There's a good balance between light and dark. It doesn't bother me at all that there are few details outside the window. To the contrary, I think the idea is that there's an inside world and an outside world. The focus here is on inside, so we don't need to see more than a suggestion that there's a whole city out there. Other's are out there. This is the inside world.

I especially like the sharp contrast between the hard lines of the cross formed by the window mullions and the curves of the figure. Also, the fact that the face is obscured by shadow and arm work's for me. Faces can dominate a composition. This is about the figure, not the face. So I like how that was handled. With regard to the awkward pose, it' creates interesting angles. I think it's OK for a photograph to show a model in a temporary position (such as this one). As an aside, it doesn't seem to usually work in a painting. Bottom line, I like the pose.

Now, as far as how the viewer's eye moves around, I think this could be improved. I myself find two specific things moving my eye to the wrong place. First is the reflection on the wood floor. It draws my eye. Second is the back of the chair. It's a beautiful chair, but the lines created by the chair's wings are leading my eye out of the picture frame to the left.

If I could make a suggestion, I think the overall camera angle is a bit too tilted. I rotated this 3 degrees left in Photoshop, just to see temporarily, and I find it more appealing. The window is still angled, but just slightly. Another possibility is to crop some from the left and/or bottom. That's just an idea of something to try. The wing chair is a potentially powerful element in the composition. The curves and texture of that chair are quite attention getting. It's complicated and I'm not sure about that chair.

Overall, this is an attention getting photograph with beautiful lighting and a lot of strong elements. Nice work!

For once, I have to write a critique that is not so positive. I do not understand the composition of this picture. My eyes go from the window to the model to the seat without knowing what has to be emphasised. The lighting on the model is nice, but I think that, overall, the picture is too "messy" and, because of that, it is hard to enjoy. The pose is rather awkward. The face doesn't show any emotion. The background might show something interesting but it is (for the sake of overall exposure) too overexposed to even guess something. In summary, I think this picture cannot even dream of matching the numerous amazing other pictures from Melissa.

Sorry you didn't like this image, I can certainly see your points. It wasn't one of my favorite at first, but it kind of grew on me. There's something about it I like, which is why I decided to post it. Thank you for taking the time to write an honest critique, and for the many compliments on the rest of my gallery.

Creating a diversion, eh? I knew you weren't innocent! You could totally rob me blind though with a diversion like this. I've got my eye on you Melissa!

Sublime contrast of textures.Β  The supple skin is alive as the setting seems old and venerable. The pose is strange, but in the most perfect way. Out of place and time, balletic and delicate as a flower blooming in the pale morning light of the summer dawn.Β The hint of a smile dances on her lips, much like her form.Β  Stretching like the smile playing on my lips as I observes the unabashed freedom and uncorrupted beauty ofΒ  the scene. A most pleasant diversion indeed.

Good for you. I suppose being here longer than other people, and only having 2 pictures in your gallery makes you better than those of us that focus on making our own art instead of nitpicking at others? You certainly deserve a gold star for your longevity here.
