*HOPS ON THE BANDWAGON*

So, I think the last time I did one of these was in... 2009? Yeah, time for a new one.

This year.... lets see, this year. What to say about it. Well, it was a year of highs and lows, and not just on the art front. I started the year playing WoW and hanging out with *messa for a month, then when spring semester started, I hit the ground running and worked my art soul harder than I ever thought I could to make new art for Anime Central. Then after that and finals I went into the Japanese Dungeon, a six-credit, five week course teaching and entire semester in barely more than a month. I basically stopped doing art then and suffered a near-nervous breakdown from the stress. Then immediately after that I fell into a really crippling depression for a few weeks in July. Around this time my girlfriend lost her job which put a big dent in our finances and our security. But I came out of my depression quick enough and got my mood and my meds adjusted. I've been properly medicated for almost six months now, the longest I've gone with proper brain/emotional function since I got out of high school. And it turns out that Cristin loosing her job was the best thing that ever happened. It was an awful job and even though it paid very well, it drained her of more than her energy every day. In a sense, I got the woman I loved back and the money didn't matter at all with that back in my possession. With fall semester came more working myself to death, and even though it's been hard I have 2/6 finals done with in this hellish 18 credit load and I'm looking back at my art load this year with a sense of pride! Cristin got a new job too, and although it pays a fraction of what her old job did, she loves the work and she's much happier, and it's easier to be happy when the one you love most is happy too <3

Art-wise, I think the progress fit with the rest of the things going on this year; lots of highs and lows. I did get my first Daily Deviation this year as well as pushing myself on a technical level. I learned a lot about using textures and how NOT to use them. Composition and keeping from falling into too much of a repetative pattern are still what I struggle with, but I'm slowly working on it. I've started thinking more about shapes and negative space when I start a piece, and usually my drive to draw comes from wanting to create a certain image rather than wanting to draw a certain character. I discovered alphonse Mucha this year too, so I hope you guys like arts nouveau, because you'll be seeing a lot of stuff inspired by his compositions next year!

So, I think all in all, this year was a really good year! One thing I CAN say for certain is that I did a metric FUCKTON of art this year with a whopping 31 finished pieces and five finished chibi sets. That's 31 finished piece and 52 chibis in one year. I think that's pretty good if you asked me!! I also came up with a symbol for myself and my art studio, which I think is pretty neat!

So, that was 2011! ONWARD TO 2012.... and in case you didn't know, 12 is my lucky number <3 <3 <3
