This is a really cool idea and I admire that you did something outside of your comfort zone.

There are a few points about this that I think are worth addressing. Feel free to digest them-- they are meant as friendly criticism to help you, nothing more.

1. Perspective here is sort of confusing. I'm assuming this was from a fairly linear POV, which is a good place to start. I see a mixture of angles here that don't mesh well together-- particularly the water's edge being so far away from the viewer which detracts from the scale I think you were going for here. Try playing with the angle a little more, it'll make the composition more interesting.

2. Colours and lighting: Although I like the cooler colours, it would be a good idea to add a little more variety, otherwise things tend to look monochrome and washed out. The back of the cave has very little depth. This looks to be a very dark and misty place, and atmospheric distortion(fancy word for haze) as well as the lighting scheme you chose would mean that the parts farthest away should be more difficult to make out. The little peninsulas on the bottom are what stand out to me in this regard the most. A little gradation between all of these aspects would go a long way.

I really like the purple hanging rock formations in the upper left and the rim lighting near the opening. I think you nailed those. This book might help you out a lot with almost everything I just talked about. [link] If you live in the US it's available at most Barnes and Noble bookstores. Happy painting

So mysterious and eerie. And those stalactites and stalagmites are beautiful. Yeah, I like rocks...

Hey, don't be criticizing yourself. God, if I could draw water like that, I'd be a lot happier with my computer art skills. Seriously, you did a great job.

You're welcome. But seriously, don't be so hard on yourself. Every artist is their own worst critic.

LOL don't worry, I'm not. I see mistakes as motivation to work harder, not as a bad thing.

And I am already pretty cocky about my own capabilities. C:<

wow, this turned out super awesome! the stalactites look amazing, and I love the place the light is coming from at the top. the water doesn't look bad at allβ€”I mean, it doesn't look realistic, but it looks like you did that on purpose, as a stylistic decision. great work on this, seriously! c:
