It's Al and another character of mine! The other guy is a rebelling lordling who goes by the name of Kespar, alias "The Farmer King". He still plays a pretty large role in my story, though for the sake of spoilers, I tend not to upload pictures of him that much. *spoilers*: Al's war band is out for his blood, amongst others.

As for Balder - you're right! Balder is the supreme general, and Alwen has every intention of taking his place and then taking his righteous vengeance - and indeed, it's not Al's style to want to be king. He'd have more freedom to do as he wants as supreme general, and Al's nothing short of pragmatic.

Ooh that makes sense why he looks so different! I just thought it was Balder since he looked kind of similar and lots of the designs have changed. Very cool to learn more about your story! Thanks for the spoiler lol Now I have a little bit of an idea of the direction your plot takes, which is nice.  

Pragmatic Al Was Balder involved with the incident that Al seeks revenge for (which I think was his family getting killed and also where he got his scar)? Or does he need that position in order to be able to take revenge? Since, I'm guessing whoever is responsible is high up or as a lot of protection so Al would need to have a lot of influence in order to get around that probably.

It's well-noted that a lot of designs are similar to one another! Kespar and Balder do look similar (more so in the past, btw ), probably because when it comes to character design, I have a lot to learn still. Again, thank you for your interest! (The story takes place in a country on the brink of a full-blown civil war - and Caleb and Kaida sure did get in over their heads when they got involved in the schemings of other powerful people ).

Al's second name should be pragmatic, honestly.  

(Here's some background motivation of Al's revenge, because you kindly asked (): Balder, though not directly involved himself, was one of the leading forces in organising the Inquisition/the Bloody Court: the more-or-less independent military organisation that led the persecutions that led to the eventual genocide and diaspora of Al's people. If Al ever wants to see through his vengeance on the people responsible for all this, he would need a lot of power, a solid backup, and preferably, a position where he can really stab Balder in the back. [>>> a benevolent lord <<<] 

Hence his dream of controlling a nice, powerful army of his own. What do you mean Balder smells the potential of a budding warlord? )

No worries! I have a lot to learn about character design as well! November and Kana (antagonist from Golden Sun) look really similar, and I need to fix that... but the more you practice the better you get! And I figured that Kespar was Balder when he was younger or something and I've only seen a couple of pieces of him so I'm sure he looks different enough. 

Okay gotcha! That makes a lot more sense now! Haha, does Balder know about Al's quest for revenge? Does he know that Al is from the group of people that he was responsible for killing? I feel like that could make things interesting, if he does know or even if he doesn't.

Character design is difficult for sure, but that's part of the fun. I must admit that at first, I thought Kana was a precursor to November, back when I first went through your gallery (over a year ago by now? 0.o), although I quickly learnt that they were from completely different stories. Also, does Maya have a crush on Kana?

Practice always is the key - eventually we'll get there!

I'm glad you think it makes sense ^^ - I don't think I ever properly explained their relationship in one of my own drawings, tbh. Balder knows Al is devoted to him for a reason, though he does not know his exact motives; he does know that al is from Ashfell, and he suspects that Alwen wishes to accumulate power in order to take vengeance on the Inquisition (and that would make Al useful. Very useful even), though he does not know Al is out for him personally. Thanks for your interest!

I don't blame you at all lol. (has it really only been about a year since I met you? I feel like I've known you forever! )

I'm actually doing a piece of Kana for today's WWM painting, maybe she'll have changed and look more distinct from November...? lol

(Nice guess! But not the right girl, think someone nicer... maybe someone with a green thumb and blond hair... )

Haha so he thinks he can use him, but he has no idea just how much of a loose cannon he can be... I like where this is going
