Why does your scanner suck, does it remove parts of the shading? Or do you mean because of the small image?
Very well done drawing, the hair blowing in the wind is done nicely.

Well, in fact the scanner is old and the colours look all wrong.. And I just think that paintings and drawings just look better when you can see them right before your eyes.

My scanner is old too, but it scans very well, probably because black and white is not such a problem, compared to something colorful. On my newest drawing "worm-infested", the lines at the bottom (which are in some other places on the drawing as well, as you can see) got a real shiny effect and a great style by scanning the picture in. Still my scanner acts strange, the drawing itself is a bit darker, but not the lines as i already mentioned.
Oh well, i totally forgot that i have always 2 sheets in the scanner. The one that should be scanned and an empty one behind it, to prevent overbright lighting, caused by the scanner. I could take it away and scan some newer drawings again, as i didn't test scanning these without an empty extra sheet.
