Description More environmental drawing practice. This was a temple carved out of polished gabbro that appeared in a dream one time. 'course, I suck at drawing gabbro, so I kind of half-assed it. xD;;

I had a lot of fun with this one. <33

Ancient, scruffy, rugged stuff is awesome. I can'd draw that kind of stuff too well though, since I have a tendency to make stuff ULTRA SHINY CLEAN-DESU.

Wow, thanks so much; I'm flattered! ^^ To be honest, the style of this picture was inspired by some of the recent paintings in your gallery, particularly the ones with dramatic lighting. I guess inspiration has a way of circulating itself, lol

Indeed it did, though it was admittedly different than what you see here. I just modified it a little so it would look a little more normal, with fewer giant piranhas swimming through the air, lol.

...actually, I kind of want to draw the piranhas now...

where the water comes out looks a little odd. It's as if the water is coming out of the air itself, rather than the gabbro. I think if you curved it and added a slot for it to come out of it'd help.

Aah yeah, I see what you mean. I had envisioned them to be giant flat-topped columns with water cascading down the sides, but I think slots will help it look a little less awkward. I'll try to fix that as soon as I can; I'm a little pressed for time at the moment.

Hm, one thing I forgot to say before was that the whiteness of the sky at the top makes it look kinda unfinished to me, so maybe adding a little more detail up there would help...? I dunno. :/

I think you're right; I tried adding birds flying overhead, but they ended up looking kinda cheesy, so I omitted them. I just tried adding them in again, this time using reference, and they look great! Thanks for the suggestion.

lots of preliminary thumbnails, proportional sketches, and low-opacity brushes with some gradients and blurs for the lighting effects.

This makes me think of how lame my dreams are :<

Seriously though, I'm very much in awe of this piece. The soft lines were a good choice. Brings it to life much better than a harsh black outline. Feels like I'm standing there on a chilly, overcast morning, and if I reached forward just a tiny bit I could touch that sculpture.

...Or fall into the water, which looks like it would be freezing. Knowing me that'd be more likely.

Great detail, great textures. I really love how you did the water and how it you did the water-fome-stuff at the bottom 8D I also really love the water effect at the bottom, though one small thing I see, there's no ripples where the water is flowing All and all great piece of work! The textures are amazing and it just looks so life like! 8D
