Description Charcoal reduction drawing of Crispin Glover as Willard Stiles.

I was originally going to color this as well, but I was having a bit of trouble with my conte crayons, so I ended up sticking with black and white.

I can't believe the paper I started out using was originally white, lol.

It looks wonderful! The monochromatic format suits it, and you drew that ratty perfectly! I guess you did get to study my pets a lot.

Thanks Sarah! And yeah, being able to play with your rats really helped me get a good feel of rat anatomy overall, so that came in handy while I was drawing this.

But srsly, there is NO WAY that paper could have started out white. XD

No, it was definitely white. xD The back of the paper proves it, lol

Haha, okay. XD;; I wanna try this sometime, if I can figure out how to do it without making a mess.

Go for it! Charcoal is a really fun-to-use medium, and it's really forgiving as well. I think it's actually easier to use than graphite, to be honest.

Holy crap! That used to be white?! I can't even imagen how you did that.

With patience, charcoal, and a little bit of India ink.

I think it's amazing how you used white paper xD

I love all the details in this. Even the mouse is super super super adorable and I never see you upload animals that much, so I suppose you're not used to drawing them. Also, I think the shading brings out a lot in this piece c:

Nicely done, Mel!

Thanks Gini! ;D Yeah, I think that's the first time I've really drawn a rat before, so I'm glad it turned out well!

Thanks <3

Wait... You started with white paper? .... How messy were your hands after that?!!! X'DDDD

medli20 In reply to Eriek-Zetei [2011-05-22 00:06:22 +0000 UTC]

Yep, I started with white paper xDD My hands weren't THAT messy, though the tips of my fingers were so black, they looked frostbitten, lol.

Whenever I go all out with pencil, my sleeve, the side of my hands, and my fingers will be ALL SILVER.. You always know when I go all out with pencil XD The evidence is all over my fingers 8'3

Hooooly balls. And you started with a white page.

Personally, I don't think this needs color. It works very well in black and white.

This must've been real messy to work on! How long did it take?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

medli20 In reply to Triforce-Kun [2011-05-21 23:53:33 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I'm glad it works in B/W, because it turned out I didn't have enough colors to work with after all.

It was VERY messy, and it must've taken about... 6-7 hours, on and off? I wasn't really keeping track.

Triforce-Kun In reply to medli20 [2011-05-22 00:04:18 +0000 UTC]

Somehow, I feel that the image stands out more with the white than it would've with color It's always a nice contrast.

You're gonna be washing charcoal off your hands for a week
