Description I listened to my favorite band while doing this. I am pleased with most of it. Plus, I got to use the new pencils(Derwent) that my parents got me. They are wonderful. : )

Most of this image is simply outstanding your shading skills certainly are awesome The knees look a little odd to me though... like the skin has gone wrinkly or something.... no its probably just my strange mind

The glossy feel to this is very effective, it's an unusual pose and your anatomy is spot on (excuse the pun).

heh heh. Thanks. It's a weird angle and position, I agree.

thanks. I only wish I drew his tail longer but I didn't really have enough space and I dont like going too close to the edge of the paper...

Thank you! Oh I meant to tell you that I sent your drawing out awhile back (on Wednesday, I think?) so hopefully you should get that in soon.

I'm glad you think so because I didn't have a color reference for my drawing. hehe.

Ponytail [2005-12-26 15:37:58 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the shading is simply great. Man, how do you do that? I've already told you that you have the insane ability to make all your horses look so realistic *is envious*
By the way, i love the title. It really fits the contest, don't know why thought but it fits .
Derwent... I use Koh-i-nor and fabercastell... but I had some derwent colour pencils, they were gorgeus (even if i only used them 2 times ).

Thanks for entering my contest with this wonderful piece!

I abuse my blending stick, haha, that's how I do it. The title choices were "my empire" or "overlook". I wasn't sure, but I kinda felt like the first one fit the picture better. I don't think the USA gets Koh-i-nor, or at least I've never heard of it. I have a Fabercastell charcoal set... and it's nice. I was looking through Derwent's catalog and I was thinking those colored pencils looked nice! haha.

Thank you so much for commenting as well.

ah! i have the derwent pencil set and it is so awesome to actually have different values for once haha. this is just gogeous. how do you achieve the soft/smoothness? blending stick?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mediocrelife In reply to drafterx [2005-12-27 00:53:00 +0000 UTC]

Yes! I am totally in love with my new pencil set. haha. I use a lot of layering and a blending stick.

really nice shading work! Love the legs. I think my pencils are Derwents...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mediocrelife In reply to AmandaDrage [2005-12-27 00:50:58 +0000 UTC]

That would explain your awesome-ness!! They work so much better than my other graphite pencils... I think these are more "creamier" and the softer shades don't scratch at the paper.

AmandaDrage In reply to mediocrelife [2005-12-27 15:16:44 +0000 UTC]

mm they are nice. They seem to last ages as well (I've had my 2 for years...!)

The shading is completely outstanding! I really love the dapples too! The nostril is small but I always make that mistake. Wonderful job and you are great with the new pencils!!

mediocrelife In reply to Elvandia [2005-12-27 00:48:44 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I think this is one of my more successful attempts at dapples. And yes, his nostril is small, isn't it. hm. hehe.

Elvandia In reply to mediocrelife [2005-12-27 04:40:34 +0000 UTC]

I think you did a wonderful job! It is small but that's easily changed, unless you are like me and can't touch a pick once it's "done".
