Here is a pic I did in honor of the 116th birthday of legendary Looney Tunes animator and cartoon director,Friz Freleng(1905-1995),who directed more than a thousand cartoons for Warner Bros. for over 34 years,not only that,he was also responsible for the creation of one of Bug Bunny’s greatest rivals,Yosemite Sam,who debuted in Hare Trigger and proved to be a more tougher,badass to Bugs than Elmer Fudd ever was, was a second father to Tweety and managed to pair him up with Sylvester for the first time in 1947’s Oscar-Winning Tweetie-Pie,pioneered cartoons with musical techniques such as Rhapsody Rabbit (1946) and Pigs In A Polka(1942),and won the Warner Bros. Cartoons studio 4 Oscars for Best Animated Short Film with Tweetie Pie(1947),Speedy Gonzales(1955),Birds Anonymous(1957),and Knighty Knight Bugs(1958).

After leaving WB in 1962 to work with Hanna-Barbera as a story supervisor on Hey There It’s Yogi Bear, Warner closed their cartoon division that following year and David H. DePatie,along with most of Warner’s animators teamed up with Freleng to found DePatie-Freleng Enterprises,responsible for The Pink Panther,which he co-created along with Hawley Pratt and David H. DePatie for the opening cartoon credits for Blake Edward’s 1964 comedy movie of the same name,which his popularity in his brief appearance in the film,resulted in the Panther gaining his own cartoon series later that year with the first cartoon,The Pink Phink winning a Oscar and spawning several follow-ups such as The Inspector and The Ant and The Aardvark.

So,happy late 116th birthday to the beloved man who brought Yosemite Sam and Sylvester to life,was one of the people behind The Pink Panther,and made Tweety an icon,Mr. Isadore Friz Freleng(1905-1995)
