Description In the old library, secret book was hidden…it was powerful book of old alchemical symbols, carefully written down to be kept from time and oblivion. Skull was set to guard the book, and a candle to give light to eyes that can read and understand strange signs.
One sad day, some evil hand burned the library down…everyone thought all is lost, all disappeared in the rage of fire…and it was so, only, hands of young alchemists apprentice saved the secret book in the last moment...
He was in the library when fire started and risking his own life, he opened the hiding place and removed the book. Both barely escape fire.
A bit burned on the edges, but still whole, book was secretly removed from the library through old secret hallways. Once out, it was carried together with the skull and candle, to be given to hands of old alchemist, who decided book must be secured better.
-But what to do?-asked alchemist himself-How to hide it better?-
And then, idea came to him…it would be easier to hide the book if it was smaller.
-And what is small, may easily pass unnoticed by those who dream of height and might-he chuckled for himself.
So, through special process, he made the book small and skull and candle to go with it. And hidden them all, to be seen only by chosen eyes, through centuries to come.

How do you like the introduction story for this item/s?
It's kinda written in last moment, so forgive any possible mistakes and/or shortness.
You can see video of this book (pages better shown) here:
[link]
It took me some time to make this book…it's size is 2 cm x 2.5 cm and it has 34 pages (plus endpapers, which makes it 36), with some alchemical symbol/sigil on every page and it's meaning/name on English, above it. Pages are made of paper dyed in “Earl Grey” tea, to give them special coloration and all were carefully made “dirty” so book would looked used. Book is bound in so called “saddle stitch” manner.
Covers gave hard time, as real leather and it had to be carefully prepared and after all, to be given the same look of age and usage as inner book have…numerous use of alcohol, mineral oil, turpentine and acrylics to accomplish this, but I'm pretty satisfied with result. After that, I did gilding.
Finally, book was burned a bit (using ember, rather than open fire and even like that it had to be done very, very carefully, avoiding any real damage).
When book was finished, it was skull's turn. It's polymer clay...no long explanations, just: lots of needles used and few hours. It's just around 1 cm in height and about 1.5 cm long.
On the end, I used old yellow candle and dripped wax carefully into a small cardboard mold I made (by the way, wick is there all the way…it’s real candle, can burn all the way, only it’s 1.5cm in height).
And there it is…book, skull and candle.
It is for sale, if anyone's interested, but price is not small, mind you, as this took me plenty of time and effort and also, cause it will stay unique…only this one, at least by me, is made and it will stay that way. I can't say the same for skull or candle, as I kinda like making those, but those never end up the same anyway
This all goes together, all three objects. Don't ask me to sell it separately. If interested in just skull or candle, contact me, can make you another ones.
Ok, this is very long, so I'll cut it…shortly: I hope you like it

UPDT: This book has been given to a friend, so no longer available for sale Again, if anyone desires something in the similar style, you know where to find me

Ok, now I'm feeling like a complete idiot...I kinda gave it to a friend already, just few days ago (and completely forgot to mention it here )
I'm so, so sorry...would trade with you gladly, right this minute. Would you maybe consider me making you something similar, another alchemy book (can't do the same book, cause they are all unique, but can make you one in same manner) or maybe book of runes or magic or something...? And of course, skull and candle to go with it, if you want.
I'll gladly do it, just note me if you're interested

That is just...REALLY AWESOME. It looks PERFECT! I am speechless--amazing detail, perfect texture, awesome overall effect. Haha, now you just need to add a bell, amiright? (There's an old movie about a modern witch called "Bell, Book, and Candle." Also a siamese cat named Pyewacket. )

Maylar In reply to TheAntimonyElement [2009-09-15 03:13:16 +0000 UTC]

Thanks
Yeah, bell...I though about it, but that "set" is kinda more used for exorcism, so I left it out. Besides, I plan doing probably three more books in similar style (won't tell you what they are right now, wouldn't like to spoil a surprise ), so bell will probably turn up somewhere
Is that a movie with Kim Novak in the leading role (can't really remember the rest of the cast, will have to go to IMDB )? If yes, I watched it ^^ and even have an episode of Italian comic (Dylan Dog) based on a somewhat similar story...
