Another shot, this one around dawn or so, of the pair of coal smoke plumes rising from my university's power plant, this time with the new power plant visible as well on the left. We'll be switching over to the new one at the end of summer this year ( 2018 )The current old power plant burns between 40,000 and 60,000 tons of coal each year, varying based on how harsh the winter is because the waste steam is also used to heat all the buildings on campus, and generates 8 megwatts. The new power plant will only burn between 34,000 and 51,000 tons of coal each year and generate 17 megawatts of power, on top of still also heating the entire university as well.
