Description Wurrrrr wurrrrrr

The Doctor had crashed the TARDIS again. Clara tried to imagine the bow-tied loose cannon having a driving lesson with some old Time Lord, and realised why he probably never failed to crash it into whatever planet they'd just landed on when they were trying to get to pre-colonial India. She grabbed onto her usual rail and held on through the turbulence as the alien ranted and waffled as he flitted from one corner of the huge machine to the next.

When the Doctor next came into her line of sight the TARDIS had grinded to a halt and he was wearing sunglasses and a sombrero.

"Have you seen the sombrero before, Clara? Sombreros are cool."

She shook her head with a harassed smile. No point asking him why he had this ridiculous get-up, he'd give up on waiting for the question and explain for himself in 3... 2...

"It looks like we've landed on Dauthi 5,"

Huh, one second faster than normal, he must be excited.

"Nice planet, mostly reptilian life. Very hot but the locals are very accommodating. I'm going out to check where we are with the sonic, the TARDIS' scanners are being blocked by all the trees. We'll go have a nice meal then we'll get a Drath to come and fix my baby up."

He was out of the door before Clara finished processing his 52-words-in-15-seconds explanation. She caught a glimpse of verdant scenery all around, as birds with long, saw-toothed beaks glided past the door and hissing calls reverberated through the air. Then it closed and Clara sat back, wondering if she could finish a chapter before the Doctor returned.

She'd read about two paragraphs of Blyton before she realised something was definitely off. If it was the Doctor, he'd probably sniff the air and say it was red instead of purple today, but Clara could just feel it, like she wasn't alone. She wandered into the cockpit, looking around nervously for any threats, and inputted commands on the TARDIS console by instinct - she'd always had a knack for that at least.

Scanning for life forms

Two found
1 homo sapiens sapiens
1 rudyarkip saakaanis

She'd never heard of that, but she supposed it wouldn't be an alien planet without its own genera and species. Maybe it was one of those birds. She though it would make a good present for Captain Jack, he'd mentioned once being sad about losing his pterodactyl. She ran a search on what sort of animal it was.

The Saakaanis is a predator from the jungles of Kharaloo on Dauthi 5. It does not prey on humanoids, but all Drath researchers who have observed it up close in the wild have not reported any characteristics. All that is known is that it has a bright colouration, and a serpentine form. No advice on capture or pacification available.

"Just my luck, trapped in here with some mystery snake while the Doctor's out." She shuddered. Clara wasn't really scared of snakes, but she was never a fan. She remembered it feeling somewhat unnerving when she'd held one as a child and found it rough and irritating, rather than slithery and slimy. Not that the latter would've been any better. She kept her back to the console as she scanned the room.

She felt goodbumps rising on her arms and her mouth was half-open in fear. She frowned for a second and steeled herself. She was Clara Oswald, saviour of countless planets, co-pilot of the last TARDIS, she wouldn't get scared by some alien snake which wouldn't even eat her. She fought against her instincts to stay completely still and leaned forward with a silly grin.

"Here, snakey snakey snakey. I promise I won't hurt you."

"I heard you the firssssst time, warm-blood."

She was probably going to jump out of fear when she heard that voice just a few feet above her and to the right. But it was just kind of dopey, like a polite year 8 Geography teacher, with an added kinda-lisp. And, she supposed, also a snake.

"Why are you hiding then? You don't want to eat me, right?"

The voice got closer.

"Your machine wasssss quite correct, cub. I do not prey on anything larger than a querami."

"I-I don't know what that is?" Again, she still felt instinctual fear which caused her voice to come out a bit squeaky, but Jenna's eyebrow was still raised. This wasn't terrifying. It was just a bit ridiculous.

"It doessssn't matter. Jusssst trusssst me. Besssssides, I don't want to know what your pink flesssssssh would taste like without any crunchy sssssscales. It sssssoundsssss revolting."

"Gee, thanks Mr. Saakaanis. Why did you come in here anyway?" She shuddered at his flesh comment, but her brain was still having trouble seeing the unseen creature as anything worse than endearing.

"I jusssst wanted to talk. We're far away from civilisssation here, I don't get many vissssitorsssss. It'ssss nicccce to have a ssssstimulating chat onccce in a while." He was closer now, right behind her. She felt something brush against her leg. She shivered again, starting to think about whether it was a bad idea to not call the Doctor back. She reached for her phone.

"Sssssorry, cub, I can't have you bringing the other mammal back. I want ssssome alone time." A tail coiled around her arm and she couldn't have it. The rough grip was, mercifully, not digging into her skin, but she could feel the scales and the strength behind them. She looked down, they were green with some bright highlights which seemed to change colours from yellow to dark blue to light blue to light green to yellow to dark blue to light blue to-

"I ssssee you've found my favourite trick. Why don't I give you a proper sssssample?"

A head appeared right in front of her eyes. The snake had the same pointed snout as those on earth, but its eyes bulged a bit above its head, being large in a slightly cartoonish way. She would have giggled again had she time to process the thought. She didn't. The lights were appearing in the creature's eyes now. Green to yellow to blue to green to yellow to blue to green to yellow to blue to green to yellow to blue

"Yesss, keep looking. They look nicccce don't they? Don't you want to trussssst me? I'm your friend. Only a friend would let you sssssee sssssomething like that."

The snake's head moved up and down and Clara's gormless face followed it in an imitation of a nod. She couldn't think. The theatre of her mind was just playing an infinite loop of hypnotic colours. It wasn't that she liked them. But they were soothing, and they were unavoidable. They had completely filled her conscious thought, so thinking about them was her only option. And she accepted that, she accepted the rings and colours and let them fill her. Nothing mattered, she was content.

She drooled as scaly coils started to wrap around her legs, and she didn't even think about how that removed all possibility of escape.

"And you tell your friend everything he wantssss to know, don't you?"

"Yessss..." Clara hadn't decided to say that. The only thing she'd decided is to keep watching the nice colours. But she said it anyway. And she said a lot more. She explained humanity to him, and the TARDIS, and the Doctor. He coiled around her as her body walked to the controls to take him where he wanted to go (not that Clara's self, still stuck in endless colourful rings, knew what was happening). She brought him to a zoo on modern Earth and gave him tips of how to fit in and how to seduce silly girls like her, all in the sleepy voice of a subconscious acting alone.

She returned to Dauthi 5 and dreamed of colours and coils.

"Clara, wake up!"

She blinked the sand out of her eyes as she looked up at the pale face of a strange man with sunglasses - her best friend.

"I've got the co-ordinates of a city, you're gonna love these guys! Anything happen while I was gone?"

Like all dreams, Clara had already forgotten, she shrugged as the pair continued their adventure through the universe.

Haha! There's actually one more upload before I go on holiday! I had some free time and I've been thinking of doing another Kaa piece for a while. So, here's some hypno-snake action, as well as thin justification for Kaa being there in any future manips! ;D

Incidentally, DA, I'm disappointed that I seem to be the first to think of this pun.

Awesome story, though I both shudder yet am intrigued by the thought of what a hypnotic snake would do with a time-machine...
Planet of the Snakes anyone?

How familiar are you with the Peter Davison era of the classic series?  A nemesis known as the 'Mara" just might intrigue you.

Sincerely,

Bill
