Wow, this is actually a good idea. I can see it being developed. Yes it would take quite some time, but if enough effort goes it to it, an outstanding product can be created.

This would be a great Adobe Air application if Deviantart ever make one.

I think u guys should try to code this similar to Facebooks chat. Because its simple, and floats when u scroll so u can keep chatting. Maybe even make it visible on all DA tabs u have open. Great job Mauricio, you've out done yourself and showed great talent in your graphic designs again!
Well done,
RS

I wonder if it could be done in Adobe Air easily, set up a jabber server here and let you log into in iChat, ect. DO IT

the design is fairly good, i like the idea of having the big people pre-inserted in the contact list, on the client side is great but on their side would be a pain to be so easily reachable.
The tabs are somewhat too large wasting some precious pixels.
Finally, in the chat win i don't like the colors, there's not enough contrast between the two chat flows to me.

I like the way that a lot of people will say this is extremely hard to do and that you'd be better writing a plugin for someone else's client: Well, I've tried both, and writing it from scratch was the easier.
In all writing a good looking chat client like this wouldn't take much effort now, given the technologies of Adobe Air — It'd pretty much just be a bit of html, css, and a heap of JavaScript.
On the other side of the fence, todo this style of design using XulRunner – mozilla's application toolkit – would take a little more effort (but it is doable).
On a side note, I'd suggest changing the title of the client, as Aim / Aol are rather picky about how they're beloved "A i m" is used, such as the sueing of Gaim for that reasoning.
