O no, no souls being stolen, just pushed to the edges Typically skin-suiters like to imagine that the person that the skin-suit used to be is still alive and conscious inside the skin, just unable to do anything (except think thoughts to the person wearing them).

Imagine being just your skin; your bones are gone so you can't stand on your own, and your muscles are gone so you couldn't move in any way to control yourself. However your nerve endings are still there, so you'd still feel anything that touched you, and because your skin is so thin, that includes the inside of your skin to a duller degree when someone is trying to get in (typically not a painful feeling), but not after they're finally in and sealed up. After they're in all the way, you can still see and feel everything that goes on, but you're otherwise entirely controlled by the occupant, and you can think thoughts between you and the occupant as well.

I suppose in a way it's terrible, being a prisoner inside your own skin, but in some cases it can be nice or fun, like with a best friend or a special someone
