Description Just started this illustration of Deinonychus climbing a tree. The pose is inspired by Reichel's excellent Archaeopteryx drawings. I may eventually add a second to the image on the ground to parallel my earlier drawings of Deinonychus pairs, like this one: [link]

Omg, I have a sketch laying around here somewhere of a Deinonychus climbing a tree modeled after Reichel's archie drawings also. Now I'll probably never finish it because it's not unique anymore.

I think this is great, but I do have one question: do you think it makes sense to restore Deinonychus with arm feathers that are quite that long? It seems like they might interfere somewhat with predation.

Looking forward to seeing it colored!

Actually, I toned down the arm feathers compared to what I would have given Velociraptor! The quill knobs in that one indicate some pretty substantial wings.

There's a paper describing Deinonyhcus forelimb mechanics that addresses the possibility of sizable wings, and concludes they wouldn't have gotten in the way of predation, because they're perpendicular to the plane of predation.

Interesting, do you happen to have a link on you for that paper? I'd like to read it if it's easily-accessible.

I don't think it's available online but here's the abstract:

It's in JVP so it shouldn't be hard to track down.
