YOU're a Sketchbook pro!
fuck, man- this is awesome.

How 'bout some full body studies...maybe the Steranko Nick Fury? Hmmmmm.

Thanks man! And that's funny you should say that because i'm on a MAJOR Steranko Nick Fury kick, so i'll definitely be doing some studies his work soon.

I like the more beefy Reed. Reminds me more of a Doc Savage, scientist-adventurer, type of character. Nice touch!

Sure. This really makes me want to break out the Waid/Wieringo FF run all over again!

Yeah that was a great run. My favorite is the Tom Defalco/Paul Ryan run...such a classic.

Haven't read much of that... guess I have something to look for in the back-issue bins. Thanks!

Not bad, but it looks more like the Punisher.

Reed's features aren't so...Chiseled.
And he certaintly doesn't have a neck like that!

He's more the David Tennant type.
Hmm, imagine that? David as Reed.

MattKaufenberg In reply to CostumesbyCourtney [2009-12-31 03:33:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, he's definitely been portrayed more like that. I personally like it better when the artists give Reed a bit more of a muscular build though. I figure he can distort his body any way he likes, but his musculature would still be there if he worked out. And he's the leader so he needs to look the part Check out Paul Ryan's work on the FF book sometime (my personal favorite).

Too often Reed is shown as kind of a wimpy character.

Well he kind of is. Then again I'm a Doom fangirl so I would think that.

Great drawing. Doesn't really feel like Reed Richards to me, maybe like an alternate universe version maybe or something.

Is sketchbook pro a good program?
Based on its commercial it doesnt look that useful...

MattKaufenberg In reply to Nagymarci [2009-12-30 22:27:45 +0000 UTC]

Sketchbook Pro is my absolute favorite program when it comes to digitally sketching. It's the closest you'll get to pen and paper (especially with a cintiq or tablet) and the interface is super simple.

Matt, I want to see more in this style, I love that!

Taking a cue from Hickman and Fowler's recent run?

Thanks Mitch! Actually i don't think i've seen that yet...but now i'm going to have to go check it out haha! I need to get back into the monthly books.

And i'll be doing more of this style for sure. I really need to work on the human form especially from the waist down. I've been lazy about that.

yeah I don't know what it is.(maybe his brains...overshadow his powers.. but I kind of like that... make him different from other Stretchy characters like Plastic man)
I really like all the characters on the FF. I'm a bit more of a Grim fan...

MattKaufenberg In reply to kidchuckle [2009-12-30 20:56:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeah same here.

I agree...all four are awesome characters. My favorite thing about the book has always been the family dynamic and how they play off of each other.

Totally!!!!!
I mean people loved Invincibles.. but when you get down to it.. they have the same dynamics as FF.

MattKaufenberg In reply to DocShaner [2009-12-30 20:50:04 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Evan! I always feel like my more realistic images don't have as much energy as my cartoon stuff. I'm trying to work on that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DocShaner In reply to MattKaufenberg [2009-12-30 21:18:14 +0000 UTC]

That's just the way it is most of the time, sadly. I love doing the cartoonier stuff because it's a little more free, but it's crazy tough to apply that to the more realistic work.
