Description My buddy ~DocShaner chose Popeye for this past week's Comic Twart [link] and i thought it would be fun to try him out in my new style. I grew up on Popeye cartoons (especially Popeye the Sailor meets Sinbad the Sailor) so i had a lot of fun with this.

Thanks for the encouragement Evan...AHEM!

Oh and my Popeye eats cans of seaweed, not spinach.

Hahaha yeah, that's how the Popeye always looked. His pipe came out of his chin basically

Your style is amazing. I'm in love with your work!! I wonder if there is a chance I could use your art as cover to some notebooks i'm hand-making (it's not a company, just love books). Greets from Argentina! Laura.

hey. this is brilliantly calm. I have been doing illustrations. I end up with one problem. When its time to add texture to it. I fail bad.

Any tips for me? Or can u show me some way to add this nice papery feel to illustrations? thanks

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

MattKaufenberg In reply to zainadeel [2011-12-13 16:42:40 +0000 UTC]

The trick to textures is using blending modes on the layers. Multiple layers of the same texture at different blending modes and opacity settings help a lot. Hope this helps!

thanks. But my main was how do u make them? or find them online?
i see the texture you used is brilliant! Any way to reproduce that?

Do you use a self made texture or did u download it from somewhere?

I scan in old or wrinkled paper of all sorts! Anything can be used as a texture.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

MattKaufenberg In reply to Icono-Graphic [2010-11-24 04:04:10 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Most of them are custom made from scans, but i also have a few from places like bitbox and here on deviant that i use occasionally.

Anything you can get your hands on Especially old comics and old paper, but experiment with anything you can find.
