Description I realized today that while all you guys are posting different Doc Savage pieces, that I myself have never even DRAWN him before.

So I wanna do two things....

One: I wanna try one of these pieces where I post each of the stages and get feedback on each stage before I move onto the next (taking into consideration the comments given).

Two: I wanna try to curb my overactive sentimentality when it comes to drawings. I get way too attached to drawings that I like, when alot of the time the name of the game is "giving up your originals."

So I'm gonna do my best to make this piece look really good and (if someone wants it) sell it. I'm not diluting myself on it's worth, but it has distinction as the first DocSavage drawing I've ever done, which hopefully adds to it's charm.

P.S. does anybody have any tips for scanning pencils? I tend to pencil pretty light and there doesn't seem to be a combination of settings or adjustments that I can find that give me a good decent pencil scan.

This looks awesome Matt...

I normally scan my penicl drawings at 300dpi and play with it in photoshop at that size...shrink it in size and save as a png file.
This is a soild design. I know of Doc Savage but need to read up on the character

That is a really good face Matt! Nailed it.

As far as scanning pencil work, I have no idea and have always run into the same problem as you have.

I'm gonna try what Jamibug said and se if that helps me out

I want to just give you a compliment and move on. There isn't much to say about it. You nailed him. From the jaw line, to the bulky but not too chiseled build, to the appropriately shredded shirt this is a great version of him. I love your lines, they have so much personality. If you are attached to it just lightbox it and ink that.

Oh and the best advise I've gotten for scanning my pencils is to duplicate your layer and set it to multiply. You can adjust the opacity or keep duplicating until it looks how you want it.

That face expression and that pose are great. I'm eager to see what he'll look like colored. I don't know anything about scanning myself.

There's so much life in those pencils that I would almost say don't ink it. If you do ink it, I think it needs some nice sweeping brush strokes. Do it fast to keep the energy in the lines. Either way, let me know how much you want for this bad boy.

There does seem to be a plethora of Doc Savage posts lately... Not that I'm complaining. I loves me some Clark Savage, Jr.

As for scanning pencils, this is a good scan. I just scan in color, convert to grayscale, and screw around with the brightness and contrast.

shit....yeah, that's exactly what i did too. Alright. well as long as I'm doing everything I can to scan it correctly, I won't complain.

Y'know what's funny, I am actually having a hard time starting inks on it because I do like the lines as they are. Gimme a buck and I'll send it to ya (it's only 3x5 image) but I'll finish it up first. I've been forcing myself to do a couple little doodles each day on 3x5 cards.

I am by no means an authority on scanning. I direct all my tech questions to =skutterfly .

A buck? What a bargain! I'll go ask my wife for some money.
