So, about that Freedom Planet 2, huh?

Yeah, I'm late, but I'm a lazy guy, so...whatever. Seeing Lilac's new design for the upcoming sequel to one of my favorite games EVAR (www.freedomplanet2.com/images/… ), I decided to do the only logical thing and give War Lilac a similar design. I've added the new clothes, changing them to fit W.L more (black instead of white, red instead of blue, rips, a fuckton of stitches and bandages), as well as changing her hairstyle and even her synthetic tendril; gotta have those bladed, uh...tendril-lets, yo?

Now will this be War Lilac's new (for lack of a better word) "official" design? At the moment, maybe not. For one thing it'd blow a plot hole in the side of Freedom Dies With Me's ending, unless I write some more stuff. And I will. Sort of. Maybe I'll make a one-off when I'm not writing the upcoming Sonic: Forced Evolution (still haven't finished the story plan, dammit). Still, thought it'd be fun so...yay. Though I will say it looked a LOT better when I drew it on paper.

As for my thoughts on Freedom Planet 2 itself? Well...I'm not really feeling it. I mean, I KNEW a sequel was coming, seeing as it was baited so hard in the ending. I guess my opinion on Freedom Planet withered a bit under all the bullshit with the story and characterization. I mean Lilac is still very similar to Sonic in the whole, "Rush in, get the shit kicked out of you" shtick, but at least Sonic did a LITTLE mourning last time that happened. I mean it wasn't much, but at least it was a little (again, for lack of a better word) human, a little relateable. Lilac just didn't seem bothered with it all. Especially after the whole torture scene from the hands of Brevon. It's worked away in that frankly insulting healing bath scene and never mentioned again. That's a copout of inexcusable levels for something so genuinely horrendous. It would've been much more interesting to see Lilac deal with the pain and torment herself, perhaps have a scene where she hallucinates Brevon taunting her or have her break down in shame and grief. Even if it was only ONE scene. It's kind of why I skipped the baths in Freedom Dies With Me and had those breakdowns and hallucinations happen to Lilac on her path to what you see above. In fact, I'm starting to wonder if putting Blade in her hands actually made any difference. Hmm.

I'm not saying she's a worse character than Sonic (she actually HAS one, for a start), but I just get the feeling all of the bullshit mentioned above is gonna get ignored in the sequel, if not outright retconned away. I'm also not a big fan of this "Merga" villain, she just seems a bit forced to me. Again, I'm not saying Freedom Planet 2 will be awful, far from it. It'll be better than anything SEGA shits out for Sonic's 25th Birthday, I can fucking guarantee that. But I'm just getting the impression it won't be as good as it could be from a story or character perspective. Of course, the gameplay may still be 10/10, but a lot of companies have proved in the past they can screw up something they did perfectly before (*coughCallofDutyBlackOpsIIIcough*). And what's to say this won't become a big franchise like Five Nights at Freddy's became, thrown on the pile of "Things you can mock for a cheap laugh" like FNAF and even Sonic himself?

Oh yeah, and I'm also a bit peeved at the explanation of Milla's ability to fire blocks being just "alchemy". Christ, I thought MY explanation (stolen from Borderlands 2, by the by) was a bloody handwave!

Can you shut up? The game's coming out in 2017, they're not gonna be strapped for time like those losers at Sonic Team. Give 'em a chance. When have they ever failed you?
