Description Even from a young age - young for an elf, anyways - Zentha was always interested in books and studying. She became a scholar and read every book in her village. She always kept an eye out for when a new book passed by, but her home was off major trade routes, so in time, she left and set out on a journey to discover new libraries.

She brought a small collection with her and would sometimes have to barter her precious books for new ones. Other times, she took jobs in libraries and castles so she could read their collections, moving on after a couple of years when she had finished every tome. It was rather fun studying other cultures.

After over a century, her quest led her to cross paths with Chancellor Lilly Smith, who was on a similar mission. Lilly was also collecting books for her own grand library. Not just one, but several. She had built a massive library in her home of Topaz Tower, and had constructed several duplicate libraries, each with a copy of almost every book in her collection.

Zentha was ecstatic. In her travels, a thousand books in one location was considered impressive. The Blitzeiche Grand Library, on the other hand, held tens if not hundreds of thousands and was still growing. Lilly's own quest of magical development required her build a collection of not only magical tomes but books dealing in chemistry, physics, medicine, biology, and so on. Not limiting her collection to science, she also gathered books on history, geography, even philosophy. Essentially, any book or scroll Lilly could get her hands on, she would have copied and added to her collection.

Working in such a place was Zentha's dream job. Even taking Lilly's collar was a small price to pay. She started at the ground and worked her way up. One of her early jobs, unfortunately, still required her to travel, but even that still had a silver lining. After a few years organizing the books, she worked as a collector, traveling the land once more to locate books. Using a handheld scanner, she was tasked with copying down any new books into a digital library and sending them back to the Tower. With the tablet, she could even read the books while on the move. As before, she got jobs at any library she could find and copied their collection.

After over 50 years of travel, it was time for her to return to the Tower permanently. She was eventually promoted to head librarian. She was given access to all sections of the library, such as the archives, restricted sections, and even the hidden rooms behind sliding bookcases. The library itself is divided into other sections for different subjects naturally, with a few different rooms. Depending on the topic, there might be a barrier in place to prevent a person from opening the door if they aren't on the list. Zentha was given the authority to alter those lists excluding the highest levels of security. The fiction section, on the other hand, has such a low level of security that it's off to the side and has more of a banned list rather then an approved list.

It would normally take weeks for a skilled scribe to copy a large tome, but here in the tower was a machine that could turn out a new book in less than an hour. This caused the collection to grow relatively quickly. However, there were some mystic tomes that could not be copied so easily, either because they were protected from such things or too complex to scan. Such books were kept in a highly restricted area.

Zentha was also met with a conundrum. On the one hand, she now had access more books then even an elf could read. On the other hand, she was now entrusted with the daunting task of vetting all the books in the non-fiction sections of the library. Books would be scanned and sent in regardless of content, but aren't always accurate. As such, a team of scholars must read and review each book. Unfortunately, the number of people well-versed in in the various subjects is rather limited and books often come in faster then they can be reviewed. Books that are considered inaccurate are pulled from the shelves and put in their own section.

Additionally, she has a team of scholars translating books into Trivium Common, normally books from other worlds. There is also the addition of books written by Lilly and her researchers.

I wanted to establish Lilly's library. I was inspired by the Belmont family library from the Netflix Castlevania anime. Given how much Lilly hordes and the fact that much of her power base comes from researching other worlds, namely Earth and its history, it's only fitting she would have an impressive library. She would of course have a printer to turn them out quickly. Printing presses are rather new for Trivium and while they exist, they aren't widespread yet. They likely wouldn't have even been around when Zentha entered Lilly's service.

I also had a bit of fun coming up with Zentha's backstory. At the time of posting this, she hasn't appeared in any of my stories, but I will be happy to use her should an opportunity arise.

I've also been putting off starting my next story. I should get around to that soon.
