Thanks! For the armor and the sword, I used the .3 mechanical pencil to shade and draw in all the small details, i used different techniques for different areas of the armor and that is mainly why this drawing took me soooo long. The big black areas I took a 2b wooden pencil and just shaded those areas in slowly but with wider strokes and using a wooden pencil helps with that. Make sure not to smash your pencil into the paper when doing those dark areas or it gives you a god awful shine. Sometimes I use 4B or higher to get the darker areas built up much faster. Then after i throw all the heavy pencil shading on there, I use those white blending stumps/pencils to blend in the dark areas on his cape. The armor on the other hand, I didn't use the blending stump, I just gradually shaded it in with just a pencil to leave that metal texture on the armor, blending stumps work better for surfaces that are made of cloth material. Then while shading I used a kneaded eraser to bring out the highlights. Honestly there isn't one way to shade a realistic drawing, for me it was just learning different ways to shade over the past 5 years and just applying everything I have learned about pencil drawing in this one image. It can be a stressful process, but when you get it down the way you want it, it is freakin awesome. Also I forgot to mention, you have to treat it like a painting, just shade layer on top of layer until you get the look you want. Graphite is a very forgiving medium if you know what you are doing.
