The Ignika (Ig-NEE-kah), the mask of Life.
Its purpose is to drain life from every organism in the Matoran Universe as a failsafe in case it did not conform to the Great Beings' plan for it. It is also to be used on the Great Spirit Mata Nui, should anything damage his life-force. It was recently sought by the Piraka, Toa Nuva, Toa Inika and Brutaka on Voya Nui, and later the Barraki, Toa Mahri and Hydraxon in the Pit. It formed a body for itself to assist the Toa Nuva in Karda Nui, where it eventually sacrificed its newfound existance in order to reawaken Mata Nui. Teridax instead sealed Mata Nui's spirit inside the Ignika, casting it off into the cosmos, where it landed on Bara Magna.

Legend says The Kanohi Ignika is only destined to be worn by one being. When the destined user uses the mask, they will be consumed by its power. If anything other than the destined user even touches the mask, they are cursed by it.
