Description Got a new camera earlier in the week then made a trip down to Florida to test it out.

Was just playing around having some fun with the camera, hooked up my 55-250 lens and aimed upwards.

This is a 2 shot composite, one image metered for the clouds and the other for the moon, layered in photoshop, slight levels adjustment for colors.

Enjoy!

Good work on combining the two exposures. Another approach is to use some of the HDR freeware out there (e.g. Picturenaut, FDRTools) to combine the exposures into a high dynamic range image; that might produce a somewhat more natural composite (not that there's anything wrong with this one, mind you).

I love the feel of this with the moonlit clouds. The subtle colours in the clouds really add to it, too.

Thanks so much for the detailed reply.

I use HDR software often in my work and for this shot I really couldnt. Since I handheld these, the exposures and composition were quite different for each so having a program do it for me wasnt really an option.

I tried to make it more natural but something always seemed a bit off, so the mask I used for the layers ended up darkening the outline around the moon, which at the time I thought was the best compromise.

Anywho, thanks again for the comment!
