Your lines have a really interesting quality to them that I don't see with any other Japanese influenced art. My style started out very much influenced by it, and although it becomes more and more my own each passing day, I don't think that the influence will ever go away entirely, nor am I sure I want it to. After all, I liked it for a reason...
Although really mostly people say "anime" if you simplify features a certain way on the face. A lot of "American" styles aren't any better with being cookie-cutter and not looking the same between characters, it's something everyone runs into, and there are good mangas that have good face variation and LOTS of everything that has bad ones. Point is, it's hard for everyone to be good, sometimes you don't realize it when you look over and their faces are different from yours, but are theirs different within their own?
Anyhow, I really enjoy the artwork you did for the Tamora Pierce series but I don't think I've commented before! It made me sad seeing you hate on your art when I liked it so much. xD

If it's bothering you, try some new stuff out. I personally love this, though. He looks so elegant. :]

hey don't be so hung up on getting that "manga" style. Sure, definitly get inspired and expirement, but don't try to copy a style simply because there are preconceived notions of how it should look. You've got an incredibly unique technique that is all your own. It's sad but ive seen too many artists give up something great because they wanted it to look like somebody else's work. Instead develop yourself and your technique. Work on getting anatomy down, maybe work on a more efficient coloring method, etc. but all in all keep expanding yourself. Good luck!
