Description Iphigenia was a daughter of King Agamemnon and thus a princess of Mycenae. Agamemnon offends the goddess Arthemis, who retaliates by commanding him to kill Iphigenia as a sacrifice so his ships can sail to Troy. In some versions, Iphigenia is sacrificed at Aulis, but in others, Artemis rescues her.

Very beautiful! I did a project on Iphigenia in school. I always felt very sad for her, sacrificed by her own father.  But Agamemnon got what was due to him in the end.

Thank you so much! For me, too, her story is sad and horrible ... And her father got what he wanted.

In any case, I can understand why Klytemnestra was so angry with Agamemnon; he sacrificed their daughter without even consulting her because he knew that she would refuse. Hell hath no fury like a mother avenging her babies...!

Yes, I totally agree with you. Poor Ephigenia... She's my favourite character too. They are not many: Achilles, Patroclus, Ephigenia, Cassandra and Palamedes. Palamedes invented chess. And what are your favourite characters?

MarysMirages In reply to Etrangerre [2018-06-03 08:14:59 +0000 UTC]

Chanteur-de-Vent In reply to MarysMirages [2018-06-30 14:48:01 +0000 UTC]

This is so pretty! I think I've heard the story in the past, but I think it was one of the versions where Artemis rescues the princess.

I was wondering if you've seen the new BBC series of Troy and, if so, what did you think of the scene of Iphigenia's sacrifice? Personally I thought it was one of the best scenes in the show and was handled really well in how it showed Agamemnon as not just a monster.
