Description
While cleaning the other day, I found my old Metal Tech projects from 10th grade. I did a pretty horrendous welding job but it was my first attempt. I'm sure if I had decided to pursue tech as a career choice I would have become better. I took this tech class back when I thought I wanted to go into the trades. I had no prior experience of any other kind of tech. I chose Metal because it sounded cooler than wood tech. I was one of only two girls in my class that year and the other one never showed up half the time. My teacher was a woman so she was more than happy to have a girl who looked kind of mousy and obviously belonged up in Drama and English in her class not drop out and actually show up everyday. My only reason for ever considering going into tech was because all the grown ups were always talking about how many other fields had a surplus amount of work force and the arts didn't make any money. I later realized that only going into an industry to make money was silly and that I'd rather just be getting by doing something I love. I'm happy I took the class though. I learned that I was able. It's also a good conversation starter when I'm around manly men who think that I'm only into dresses and gossip.
P.S. There was a grade 11 class where they make a car each year but too many people took it so I couldn't get in It made me sad.
