I was fascinated by the light, motion and the feel to it. Keep up the good work!
By the way. What program did you use to make this? Krita? And how do you predict the light on objects? Any artbooks you recommend for that? Im no good at drawing yet, still learning the basics. Thankful for answers

Hi! Thank you

I'm always using Paint Tool SAI - I was trying Photoshop once, but it has too much options and I felt lost

I'm using layers, it's easy way to paint close and distance view without damaging whole picture if you make a mistake.

I've also downloaded this brush lately:
fateline-alpha.deviantart.com/…
and I can highly recommend it, I'm using it constantly since I've installed it.

Unfortunately, I can't recommend a good artbook to you, because I've never used any. I try to learn from nature, movies and games. I also use pictures of true digital artists, maybe speedpaintings on youtube... But I try to don't inspire by other artists' work very often, because then I'm completely losing my creativity. I'm vulnerable to their beautiful ideas, and after watching some works or digital speedpainting, I'm unwittingly copying it, while trying to create my own image.

So I found something like "my own way" to learn. First of all, I try to observe how lights, shadows and colours look like and change in real world, depending on the time of day, weather etc. It's very helpful in finding some inspiration, too.

The next way I found useful to learning, is to find photos of landscapes/objects etc. - but it must be a photo, not a painting (the "plagiarism" effect strikes, like I said above). At first I was copying and pasting some photos on layer under the main one, and try to "redraw" them. But for me it was kind of tiresome and uncomfortable way, but you should check it by yourself - it can be a good way to learn the basic rules that are prevailing on particular views.

As the next step of learning, I've started to just take an intense look at the photo I liked, and try to remember every single rule of colors, lights, perspective etc. as well as I can. And then, even if I forgot how something looked like, I tried to figure it out by myself before checking. It's a great training to stimulate your creativity.

But I'd be a liar if I'd told you that it magically happen to make something just from a look - you have no idea, how many times I try to make something new without any satisfactory effect, but I always save the not finished picture, because it's very likely that I'd return to it later. And it's a shame to lose a cool idea, by deleting and forgetting it.

Some people would say, that if you want to draw good digitally, you must draw good traditionally. At first I was scared by this "rule", but tried digital drawing anyway. And now I can disagree. When I was drawing traditionally, I didn't have any drawings, that was worth showing to anyone. In fact, my skill started to increase when I tried digital drawing. So don't let this type of councils discourage you.

If you want, I can give you some digital painting advices, that I've learned by myself already.
I'm constantly learning, just like you. Thinking that you're at your best already, is the worst thing any artist can do.

Hello again,

Thanks for sharing! I really appreciate your art tips and would very much like to learn more about digital painting but then i would need one of those "drawing tablets" right? I heard it's difficult if just using ordinary mouse. But since i do have ipad it would seem easier to just buy a "tablet pen" and use some similar program from AppStore. You use a tablet don't you?

yepp music is certainly a useful method to get into the right mood. I love celtic  music to and similar. I hope i can move on from paper and pen to digital painting soon. You have inspired me.

Hi

I have the cheapest tablet from Wacom (Bamboo Pen) and I'm satisfied for now. But as I can see on official websites, this model is no longer available to buy. There are many other models, so you should check and compare the prices etc. and then decide what option is better for you.

I can't say anything about ipads and tablet pens because I've never had anything from Apple. But If you want so much to draw on ipad and not on real drawing tablet, I think you should buy a pressure sensitive pen from Wacom: www.adonit.net/jot/touch/

I think that if you want to draw digitally you should have a tablet or proper pen and no longer worry about your skills. Drawing digitally and traditionally is a somehow different thing, as I said. When you'll have an opportunities to draw digitally, write to me and I'll try to give you all the tricks, which I have learned so far.

I am very pleased that I have become an inspiration for you, is a wonderful compliment, thank you

Oh, and one more advice - I'm very vulnerable to music, so if you are too, you can try it - when I'm painting, I'm listening to music that mach to my idea. When I'm painting mountain landscapes, I try celtic/irish music or soundtracks from games that match to the atmosphere. Forest match with that instrumentals, too. For paintings that include objects like castles, dragons etc. I like to use medieval music. Night fits greatly with calm sounds or night music from games (f.ex. Skyrim), Native American music mood is perfect for ethnic climate etc.

It helps me to delve into the atmosphere that I try to draw, sometimes I have the impression that the hand is "drawing by itself", while I'm listening to music. For example - some of my last drawings was inspired by game Ori and the Blind Forest and drawn with music from it.
