I'm hoping to get shots like this, but my Sigma 50mm just isn't capable..not sure why, it's a perfectly good lens, but I'm not here to rant about my lens

May I ask you for the aperture you used on this shot? My dad estimated f18 - 22, but my D70s doesn't like that
