I did this for a sadistic exchange with (who made me a model of the Stargate. yes, with all the symbols, yes, she insulted me. A LOT).
I had a thousands problem with this one. I spent most of the time researching bridal gowns (you've to understand I'm NOT one of those girls who like to think about what they'll be wearing at their wedding so I apparently know almost nothing and had to start from the ABC) and trying to fit the 3 different characters should be synthesized in this gown:
Katniss's own personality (since Cinna would certainly keep her in mind)
Cinna's style (very fabric-centered)
Capitol's taste (because they voted this one amongst many others).
All thinking about the black version which SHOULD look like a bird.
Honestly. It's been a puzzle and I don't think I've found the perfect solution. I've lost a bit of katniss' personality.

Honestly, though you say you lost a bit of Katniss' personality, I think that's sort of okay here. In a lot of ways, that dress was the capitols dress, not Cinna's. Cinna's dress, the one he really designed for Katniss was underneath. The wedding dress itself, in my mind, was the Capitol's way of hiding Katniss' personality in a bunch of silk. Like trying to wrap her up in pretty fabric would make her less scary and less of a threat.

this is absolutely gorgeous! and remeber, the capitol ( i.e. president snow ) sent over a box full of wedding dresses that Katniss had to try on, and she didnt really like any of them as far as I can remeber. the one she ended up wearing was the one the capitol citizens voted on was the silk one. i think she remebers it being heavier than it was when she tried it on because cinna had said he needed to make adustments for the lighting.

Yeah, that's the reason why having to choose I suppressed katniss' personality.... In that context it was obviously the least important aspect (which is horribly sad but....) Honestly I respected her by not adding a thousand of other different things a capitol bride would certainly have.

exactly, and I did too! when i first read catching fire, I was like wtf, why did Cinna actually put her in that dress? and then when katniss said in her thoughts how it was heavier than she remebered i knew something was up. and your welcome!

This is gorgeous, and really well done - I love this sort of freeze-frame of Katniss and the dress in the act of transformation. It's one of the neatest moments of the book, and I think you captured it perfectly!

I have a hunch that, giving the fact that Cinna created faux fire, he also invented a sort of motion-sensitive fabric that is activated through maybe the motion of twirling itself, or speed of motion at which she moved. I lean towards the later given the fact that she would have moved cautiously while wearing the dress, and the twirling was the fastest she had moved since putting it on.
This is absolutely beautiful, and the best portrayal of Katniss in her wedding dress that I've seen

Remember as well that Cinna told her not to raise her arms until she twirled. That seems to have been the key factor in sparking the fire that changed her dress.
