This looks great! Just curious, how do you create that vapor? It looks like a fire/flame texture. Do you use a texture and change it's shape to fit your piece or did you create it completely from scratch?Β

If I remember right I started with a texture, I think it was smoke, but didn't really like the way it flowed in relationship with the rest of the piece so I had to paint it quite a bit. Β It's pretty simple if you start with a soft round brush and erase back edges with a hard edged eraser or lasso tool. Β Use plenty of layers to overlap and experiment and you should get pretty darn close.

Ah yes, smoke was the correct term I was looking for hahaΒ
Thanks for the tip! Btw, what do you mean by erase "back edges"?

Well, if you look at the image, the smoke effect has hard edges. I just used a hard edged eraser and carved the shapes after using the soft round brush to create the smoke.

MarkWinters In reply to Cameli36 [2013-06-16 22:44:14 +0000 UTC]
I start with a soft round brush, make a bunch of shapes and erase edges with a harder round brush.
