Description Here's yet another gorilla bust I started a couple of days ago.
Still working on it, although I'm trying to keep this one a bit looser. Not too refined.
This is sculpted in J-mac Classic clay medium grade.
it stand about 14" tall.

I love it, I'm a huge fan of King Kong and this gorilla is wonderful, I think keeping it loose it a good idea, it seems to add more "life" to the overall image.

This sculpture is sculpted in Oil base clay.
J-Mac Classic clay. Some of the other full figure
sculpts are sculpted in Super Sculpey.

that must be very time consuming, but holy shite. Maybe you should invest in zBrush? Then you can export him to max and animate him or something. I'm sure there are people who would pay top dollar for skills like this in zbrush.

i just love the texturing of the hair it's at the same time rough/coarse yet not wild and unmangeable (if that makes any sense).

This is really amazing! I like it's slightly unfinished (loose) feel around the shoulder, gives it character.

Please tell me you used references on this... O.o

Looking gorgeous! The skin folds around the eyes and nose are superb.

How does the J-mac clay compare to something like Chavant? I'm amusing it's oil based? Cheers.

MarkNewman In reply to JamieDMac [2007-03-08 06:39:41 +0000 UTC]

The j-mac clay is less waxy. A bit smoother and less sticky than Chavant. Yes, it is oil base clay.
I like it a lot.

JamieDMac In reply to MarkNewman [2007-03-08 10:20:28 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Mark. I like the sound of that. Certainly the less waxy and sticky part. Chavant can be too much of that at times making it a sod to work with, I find anyway. I'll have to see about acquiring some. Cheers.

This may sound stupid, but have you ever thought of doing an Ape and Babe sculpture? Kinda like Frank Cho's images? I see your interest in gorillas is pretty much like his. I love how you create these masterpieces. Would look cool if you could do that as well. Just an idea tho. Great job!
