Description
Anthracite kingdoms once ringing with life
Rest without honor as the world dashes by
An era abandoned - a smoke-ridden town
Anthracite mountains cannot muffle the sound.

------------

Photo taken at an abandoned coal breaker facility in the Coal Region of Pennsylvania. The boots were not arranged or disturbed in any way.

This is great, I really like how the boots are set out. Kind of gives it a haunted feeling

That is simply amazing that you found those boots like that! Maybe another photographer already got there and put them there? That would be an interesting story as well - although not as interesting as if they were there like that all along (which is more likely.. ).

+fav!

I've considered that somebody else set them up, but I'm not too sure about that. This place was HUGE...about 15+ stories high. It was also literally in the middle of nowhere. It's not a tourist hotspot and has remained virtually untouched. There are entire rooms filled with documents that nobody has touched for 60 years. I actually have several record books from the colliery from the 1940s. I also have the sheets that the wokers would record their hours on. For some strange reason, boots can be found all over this location. I would imagine that workers wore regular shoes to work and then changed into their workboots when they arrived. This was only one area where boots could be found. My best guess would be that they have been like that for a very long time.

Glad you like it...everybody seems to have their own reasons for liking this piece. What does it for me personally is how the boots seem to have so much life. They really tell a story to me. Some of the boots are holding their heads down from years of work while others are still standing strong. To me, I see this as a group of miners sitting on a bench.
