This fits. Dipper is trying to unlock secrets of the unknown and magic. Mabel tries to bring light and joy to the situation. Wendy's great with an axe. Stan's a thieving old man with skills. and Soos...is really handy to have around.

You know, with the Monster Falls AU in mind, I could see Wendy being a Companion. And that probably spoiled that plotline for anyone who, like me, has only just now traveled to Skyrim.
