Superboy flew over the planet Xeran. He was there on a covert mission and wore his black stealth costume. The Khund Empire had recently challenged the United Planets' colonization on the planet, and Superboy had been asked to go on a reconnaissance mission to discover the extent of Khund infiltration within a neutral zone. Superboy had other motives for volunteering. Last time he was here, Element Lad had an encounter where some strange native crystals had neutralized his transmutation powers (Element Lad - Emergency Signal 01 (preview) ). Those same crystals had transformed one of the colonists into a slime monster. Element Lad had had to leave the planet to rescue the colonist, so this was the first chance a Legionnaire had to further investigate the mysteries of this planet.

As Superboy flew towards his landing site, he veered around the numerous surveillance satellites the Khunds had liberally spread around the planet. He was glad he had thought to wear his stealth costume to help avoid detection.
