Walt Disney's 4th feature-length animation and the 4th entry to my Disney Magic series.I'm a HUGE Dumbo fan. Love every single thing about it. The fact that he doesn't speak a single word, the Pink Elephants on Parade scene (obviously), Baby Mine, the single most melancholic and heartbreaking scene and song on a Disney movie, the gorgeous animation, and the list goes on...
This was probably the hardest of them all for me. I wanted something really simple and clean that would capture the innocence and optimism of Dumbo, and still being very graphic and eye-catching.
It wasn't easy to make it work. As always, things get cluttered in a matter of seconds... and it actually took me more time to have the background working as I wanted than to make Dumbo...which is just plain ridiculous once you look at the background. But now I'm really happy with it
As always, only using straight lines and no gradients.

indeed, those were more creative times... it's a shame Disney doesn't do any more experimental animation like they used to

word ! it's all so safe these days. so calculated. Pixar still manages to make beautiful movies though, but it's hard for other smaller companies in handdrawn animation especially, to come up with new challenging stuff. I think those days are over.

I love the fact that you've made Dumbo pink! Its a really smart idea, that links well with the pink elephants scene in the film. This Disney Magic series just keeps getting better and better!

Initially I was actually gonna have him in a crazy colorful pink-elephants type of background. But that wasn't working really well and I felt it was coming off too much as copy of the scene in the movie. I think this way it represents better the character and everything else I said up there.

Ha no joke I was about to start work on a piece very similar to this! I like your style so much I wanted to try it out for myself and I was going to Dumbo and my vision had him looking almost exactly like this...except grey, and smaller...with a circus tent in the bottom corner...Anyway great job again! You did all those things you intended to very well!
