Description It's March 1st. And despite the fact that I'm from Russia, and in Russia, Spring officially starts today, I refuse to believe the brown novembery raininess that I see outside my window. So I painted this very wintery ACEO in rebellion. Winter is not over yet.

Watercolor.
2.5 x 3.5 inches.

Have you been to Texas in the summer? Its like over 100 degrees every day. Suuuuuuucks!

Of course Winter is like 50 degrees and it never snows (well once a year) but at least its not HOT!

*nod nod* lucky...

i went to russia for new year's... and it was RAINING. in russia. in moscow. home of the white bears and the eternal winter. can you believe that?! and we flew through finland... which is norther than moscow, and which is also home to a place called "lapland" which is where the european santa claus and the snow queen come from... no snow in helsinki. none. bleh. absolutely and completely dreary in both places. we shoulda gone to yellowstone ^^

Starrydance In reply to maria-jaujou [2007-03-02 05:38:17 +0000 UTC]

Wow I didnt know it was ever NOT snowy in Russia! We need to do that one year, Hubby really wants to drink vodka in the Red Square (one of his "life goals" haha!). But Im not going if I dont get to wear one of those cute fur hats!

Hmm, Snow Queen. Thats totally who you need to ACEO next <3

And you shoulda! We coulda frozen our fingers off sketching the Grizzly Bears, Wolves, Elk, Bison, Bald Eagles (!), Swans... not to mention all the trees, frozen rivers, and people dressed up funny in cold wear! <3

Ok I gushed a bit there, hahaha!

maria-jaujou In reply to Starrydance [2007-03-02 05:48:55 +0000 UTC]

Well, I don't know how the rest of Russia is (after all... 13 timezones and 2 km height difference between the top of the Urals and the ocean... that's a lot of range), but Moscow gets to about -20C in the winter and about +30C in the summer. -20 is about... -10F and +30C is about +90F. So we get our hot summers and our cold winters just like any non-south US city like NY or Chicago... The "cold" is just a little "colder". Which is precisely why it was so wierd that it was like 40ish F over New Year's.

And your hubby needs to consider the law carefully when he's about to fulfill that life dream. It is illegal to consume alcohol in a public place. There are cafes on the red square of course, and he can certainly drink vodka there, but not walking around out on the cobblestone. ^^

hehe, this aceo is pretty snow-queen-y. ^^

oh, drawing from life, so cool! i mean, awesome. ^^ no pun intended. i love drawing from life. I hate myself every time i go to a zoo and don't bring my sketchbook (out of consideration for my non-drawing boyfriend). ^___^ wheee sounds like you had a great time!

Yesh, you prolly just saved him from a Russian prison! Not a fun way to end a vacation, hahaha!

Yeah I always forget my sketchbook... so he has to buy me another one. So I have stacks of half filled sketchbooks, haha! He actually bought me a messenger bag just for books so I WONT forget another one! Haha!

maria-jaujou In reply to Starrydance [2007-03-02 06:11:59 +0000 UTC]

Actually, what usually happens is... you drink. a cop approaches you. asks for your documents. tells you that you can come with him to the precinct for the issue to be formally recorded and fine of, say, 50 roubles (a buck and a half)... or you can avoid going to the precinct for a fine on the spot of, say, 500 roubles (also known as a bribe).

well, at least that's what happened that one time i turned left on a right-turn-only sign... the numbers may be different for drinking in public. the only time me and my friends were caught with open bottles on the street, we talked our way out of it.
but that's also if you're russian. they usually demand larger bribes from foreigners.

i actually really want one of those smaller half-size-but-twice-as-thick sketchbooks with a sturdy binding.. to sketch things in when I go to cool places... but i always forget to buy one before i go anywhere >_<

Lol Good to know, I relayed all that to him and he sorta laughed.

Of course he'd consider that an adventure....

Yeah I need to find a small one too, been dragging around the 9x12s maybe Ill remember a smaller one. (Lol!)

maria-jaujou In reply to Starrydance [2007-03-02 19:05:21 +0000 UTC]

*lol* i'm not kidding about taking more money from foreigners, either. ^^ and it's not just bribes... you go to an art gallery (Tretiyakovskaya Galereiya is the famous one that i saw this at) and it says on the ticket window, in russian: "adult 45 roubles, student 15 roubles" and right next to it, in english, "adult 450 roubles, student 150 roubles.". XD

HAhahaha! Nice! Of course all countries are like that to a degree. Mexico is the funniest at it: they will put Dollar prices and Peso prices and usually they are half totally vs. the dollars! Of course then theres haggling, which most normal Amercians dont ever do or even consider is part of the game, hehe!

Putting both of them in roubles is funny tho, sneaky sneaky!
