do you ever sketch before you digitally paint? or does a nice wacom cintiq really make a difference?

no, mostly I keep the mediums separated. although I would like to render more than a few of my sketches digitally, I dont really have a good camera
actually I use the trust wide screen design tablet

I love some of the things here, including the brushwork on the ground surface, but careful when rendering rounded objects, they get a shadow in a certain area, and you missed that, so your top part of the ship looks flat
Also there's no perspective here, and it's strange to see all horizontal lines almost parallel, which also makes things flat
Cheers!

Love the silhouette of the ship, really catches the eye.
And I second the thumbs up on the horse decal, helps tie together the whole futuristic western vibe you've got going here.
Nice entry, good luck in the contest!

I love this. The idea of an ugly, cantankerous starship used by a bounty hunter is really intriguing, and I could see this blossoming into a hilarious story. I'll bet the owner's name is "Bubba Feth" - marking him as the tacky, unsuccessful knockoff version of a famous intragalactic bounty hunter of great renown.
The one criticism I have of this piece is the horse decal on the hull - it seems out of place. I suppose a stylish, graceful decal on such an awkward blob of a ship could be taken as ironic, but I'm just not quite feeling it. Still, the piece overall looks great and I love the design very much. Great work!

thanx
it's how a Bountyhunter who loves his ship might decorate it. Despite apperances, to him she's a gracefull and majestic steed

I see - in that context, I can appreciate the decal. Thanks for clearing that up!

The horse decal works for me, the dude is wearing a cowboy hat and a poncho after all.
Nice work

True - there's a definite Clint Eastwood look to both features, but that's never been my preferred genre. Everybody will find their own favorite aspects, I'm sure - and you know a piece of concept art is good when it gets everybody imagining different stories behind it!
