Wow this looks amazing! It can be hard to share things sometimes but I'm glad you did xD I love the background a lot as well haha.
I'm From ProjectComment And I just wanted to point out some things about this
1.) Value and shading:
you did an amazing job with the hair! the lines are all very well done a detailed and all come together to make her hair really stand out. I like how the ends get less detailed and the center is the most so, its brings my eyes to a good center point and then, allows them to kind of follow it down, very appealing and a great style that I have not really seen before!
2.) Background:
Did you use a type of stamp tool or clip art for the background? or was it more hand drawn i would love to know
Anyways, the background is very wonderful and ofc matches Lapis and her water based features as show in the show. Its got good variety that makes me very interested in it instead of just one simple colour that can get boring. It also helps Peri blend into the drawing without being too distracting since Peridot is a lot brighter than Lapis and could attract that attention away so i applaud you for doing that! Bluring Peri also helps to make em less distracting but still noticeable when you look haha.
3.) Facial expressions:
oh boy! The expression on Lapis's face is just so calming happy but peaceful and It matches her so well (for the most part). And her eyes are so well done and I really like how there many small shines instead of one big one - Matches your drawing style very well (:
As For Peridot; I didn't even notice she was there for a second haha, but BOI when i did it got me hard. Its such a funny expression and honestly quiet fitting haha. I love it.
4.) Line Work:
I like how most of it is non linearted (thats not even a word lol). It works well w/ the background
1.) Value And shading:
I think some of the detail i saw in the hair was a little lost in the clothing of her. It is still well done for sure! However, Its a lot more flat with very bold highlights and shadows with what i think it not enough transitional in between colours so maybe try adding more value. Again i see this in the skin, but not in the face. the face has a good balance of colours and looks really well done which is good since its the center of attention for most drawings like this. However, in the showing skin on the body, there is the same problem as with the cloths, not enough transitional colours in between the shadows and highlights. Also, it could use a little more shadow in the lower part of the left arm (one behind the body). (: Its just little details that are not as concerning as I just made it seem but still important to take into consideration
2.) Background:
While the background is very stunning, I think it's also kind of distracting. there is a lot going on and it kind of takes away from lapis. some ways I could change this are:
-Lower the opacity of the background layer in the program. It can make it less bold while letting Lapis's colours stand out from the background as they are both blue.
-Less bright colours. Make then less bright (so no bright whites and such) so that again, Lapis stand out more than the background.
-Get more of those middle tone colours like the one in the center of the background. The bright whites shown, along with those random darker ones are a bit too bold for a background and I think they should perhaps be toned down a bit
Just food for thought ofc bright and bold background CAN work for a lot of drawings it just depends on the situation.
3.) Facial expression:
Not much to say here, just one little thing. Is peridots mouth in a closed squiggle or is it open in a scream? the water covers where it would be if it were open so just wondering? If it is open then make sure it does not get covered up ^^
4.)Line Work:
So there is not much "linework" in this however, I did notice on the face of Lapis that she has a white highlight line on her face. The line is kind of messy and doubles at at a certain point. This can make the face less appealing to look at so i would recommend making it a little more clean. Also some of the hairs white highlights are too high up and not lined up so another little thing that most wont notice but still something to consider
I love SU so seeing this, and how well it was done- makes me happy and I defiantly enjoyed it! again, glad you shared it and I hope you continue to draw, and improve. these were just some pros and cons I noticed and you dont have to agree or listen to any of them haha
anyways hats off to ya and remember,
-You can only improve

Nervous to share this post? Trust me, I once took great pride in showing off some really trashy images I made back when I established my Deviantart account in 2015. You’ve done an excellent job with yours so it’s certainly worth sharing!
